I worked on one DeLorean where the splines had stripped on the passenger
side torsion bar. There was about 1/2" of splines sticking out of the
retainer bracket but everything inside the bracket was worn down. We shimmed
the bracket out enough to catch those remaining splines and it seems to be
holding up. I have no idea why it happened but if it can happen once I'd
guess it can happen again.
