Probably no reason on a DeLorean other than to lower it or modify the handling. I've heard of springs weakening over time due to factors such as racing or driving on extremely rough roads (think New York City taxicab) over many miles. The typical low-mileage DeLorean, even at 25 years old, has probably not "worn out" its springs.
