Thanks for the reply! 

The tailpipe does have black film in it...not sure where to find the 
other objects you mentioned (WOT, etc) to check.  Will have to go to 
my trusty book.  Pardon my ignorance, but what does it mean when a 
motor is 'set too rich?'. 

Driving habits are tame, been a manual tranny driver for awhile.  
Although if I do floor the car on the freeway to pass, I can 
literally see the fuel gauge drop...fast.  No joke.  Does that help ?
