Andrew, Of course a yellow top will work as it's still better then most standard car batteries. However, the same size as a red top has 50 less CCA and 110 less CA. Plus it costs about $30 more. That's why I don't recommend them unless you need the deep cycle. As for your electrical leak, you might want to purchase a digital multi meter (with the ability to measure current). You can then go circuit by circuit to track the leak. After rebuilding the lock module (or disconnecting it works just as well), I've gone up to 2 weeks and it would start right up. In fact considering my D currently uses 23mA (with stock radio and clock, rebuilt lock module and remote keyless entry), I should be able to go about 40 days before the battery is 50% drained.
