The problem with doing it through the fuel pick-up is that not only
can you not inspect the inside of the tank well, you can't clean it
either. IMHO it is no biggie to remove the fuel pump and inspect the
boot, the pick-up hose, and the baffle more completely, drain the
fuel, and then put everything back. Since this is one of the "hidden"
areas of the car I like to look in there once in a while. When you get
a good look in there you can actually see a bubble of water floating
in the fuel, shiny pieces of metal, dirt, etc in the fuel. In many
cars the baffle is either not properly assembled or parts are broken
or missing. You just can't tell all this through the fuel sender.
