Did you remove circular steel plate pressed into housing (against back
of spindle cable gear)? How difficult was it? Did it stress pot metal
too much?

Apologies for so many questions. I wanted to remove that plate when my
spindle cable comitted suicide (to insert another) but was afraid of
damaging housing. Soldered repair to remaining cable instead.
