Engine, Volvo 260 or 760

Is the engine in the DMC closer to the one in the Volvo 260 or 760. 
What is the difference between the 2 Volvo engines? I know the water 
pumps are different in the 260 vs. 760, but what else? Has anyone on 
the list tried the Volvo pump, if so which one?
