DMC Joe is correct. If you ground the wire for length of time you will
blow the gauge. This is why I said my method is quick and "dirty". If
you ground the wire for only 1-2 seconds it should peg the gauge and
not burn it out. If you want to try doing it safer ground the wire
through a resistor around 1,000 ohms 1/2 watt. As in all procedures
mentioned on the DML you do anything at your own risk.
