I had the same problem. Check that the rubber surround for the handbrake is
flush at the point where the release button meets the rubber. If not
wriggle the rubber sleave surround up towards the button. This will allow
the handbrake to drop just that little bit more to allow the light to go
out.

The carpet pouch should be pushed down too as it tends to work its way up
quite a bit.
