Some mighty hard shifting

My shifting has become difficult and I can only find 5th gear every so
often. There is no grinding in the transmission and I have brand new master
and slave clutch cylinders. This leads me to believe that the shift cable
needs to be shortened since I cannot get far enough to the right to fifth
gear.

Does this sound correct or am I way off base here?
