Don, I have thought about the modification. I can build an alternator that doesn't use the light and it wouldn't be a problem (internally excited). I have experimented with the wiring of the car to eliminate the bulb, but personally, I would want the bulb as an and indicator that the alternator isn't working. Most people that aren't comfortable in wiring wouldn't want to remove the dash and retrofit a device or solder the printed circuit that is sandwiched between mylar.
