Check the throttle linkage and be sure when it is at or returning to idle that the idle micro switch is clicking. Sometimes it is just on the edge or the cable has some slight drag and it doesn't hit the switch "smartly". Also check at WOT (wide open throttle) that the pedal isn't hitting the floor, the linkage at the pedal bends if the cable has too much drag and when it bends you can't get full travel. You should have the throttle recall and the cable lubricated with anti-freeze! Look in the owner's manual and review starting procedures for a cold and a hot engine.
