A/C control panel melting?

Hello All,

I saw on a member's website something about the original plastic A/C panel
melting due to the panel lights being on all the time. (and a nice jumper
modification to switch them on with the headlights). How big a problem is
this, and should I be concerned? I have an original plastic panel, and
don't want to risk having it melt and replace it with those newer vinyl
overlays. I don't think the jumper solution will help me much, since I
drive with the headlights lights on all the time.
