binnicle removal

I have finally removed the binnicle. This job had been put off for 4 -5 years waiting for the right weather, the purchase of fresh bandages, and a deep breath. With DeLoreans coming in June, I thought mine could look alittle better without the dashmat covering the cracks.

Would someone who has upholstered their binnicle please advise what and what not to do, so it will fit on replacement.
