Just an update...you can also travel to Ireland on a 'waiver' WITHOUT a
passport under 22 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 53.2(h) of Title 22 for
the specified time you indicate your travel provided you contact the US
State department and country of choice for your visit (Ireland) for their
approval letter to be issued for entry/exit of domestic/foreign locations
and return to the US. Most people are unaware of option.
