Jim,

The early Bosh fuel pumps had a check valve integrated into the body of the
pump, this style pump uses a standard one piece fitting (flat head). The
later style pump uses an external check valve which requires the famous
"dome nut".

FYI: the original style pump was discontinued to a high failure rate of the
built in check valve.
