I think the wires that you are refering to is the top dead center pick-up on 
cylinder block. If you said that the the wires were towards the middle of 
the tranny on the drivers side then it would be the reverse light switch. 
The top dead center pick-up wire connects to the diagonstic plug. Just a 
thought. Let me know what it is.
