Frame inspection/Access panels?

Robert,
As I am hopefully-soon-to-be-living-the-dream, could you please 
specify exacly which access panels, their locations, and what to look 
for? I plan on seeing a few D's soon, and would like to perform
these types of inspections myself. I may or may not be able to get a 
car on a lift, so any assistance on frame inspection without the aid 
of an expert would be greatly appreciated.
