STAINLESS or paint?

Hello list,
The exterior of my 1981 black DeLorean is almost completed. The
stainless steel was lightly sanded before the car was painted.( I striped a
dented panel) I think it may easily be buffed out to look like new with
blending pads. I know thats what the 97 DeLorean time machine had done to it
and it looks good, I beleive he also clearcoated it too.
The original owner promises it has NO bondo anywhere on the car but he
said it was delivered painted with under 1000 miles on it. I have had every
panel off of the car at one point and there are no dents on them. I just
bought a new door for it that is stainless steel and I love the way it looks.
I think john's idea of stainless steel was awesome. how much will painting
it effect the value? I will probably end up selling it before college and
dont want to get screwed over.
My car is a mirror black and I like the way it looks also. it gives it a
nice sporty Lotus look. The car sat for a long time and the paint is
oxidized and starting to chip. The local automotive painting school here in
Grand Rapids offered to paint my car for FREE. All I have to do is supply
the paint which wont be a problem. From what I have seen they do a nice
professional job. They think it will be a neat experience to paint a DMC.
All of the car is black except a door and a fender. they said they will need
instructions on how to prepare the steel for painting. I understand that 3
paint companys put out papers on how to paint "d's". where can I find these
at? I am kinda leaning towrds paint but if the value is going to go down
considerably I may change my mind. I will want around $13k-14k for it when
its all done and painted. overall its a pretty nice car with lower miles.
is that reasonable for a painted car? If I am painting it I need to sign up
soon, but I can't get in until October.
please let me know what you all think.
thank you
David
