280 Park Ave was the former Xerox corp. headquarters. DeLorean Motor Co.
rented the 35th and the 43rd floors. The Building is now the Met Life
"Snoopy" building. On my last trip to NYC, I had the opportunity to visit
there and had an "off the record" tour.
James Espey, Scott Muller, Chris Rabilas and I had a similar "off the
record tour" of DeLoreans' office and of the factory in Belfast.
For those of you that care and would like to know about the history of
the company, the DeLorean company was actually a mini-automotive-comglomerate.
DeLorean Motor Company was a huge umbrella company that housed the
DeLorean Motor Cars LTD. This was the manufacturing arm of the company,
better known as the assembly plant. The DeLorean Motor Cars of North America
was the DeLorean dealership sales and service facilities. The DeLorean Motors
Company Holdings was a shell corporation that DeLorean tried to issue stock
to the public. NOTE this stock offering was structured completely different
that what he offered the executives and the dealerships. The executives and
dealerships as well as the NIDA (Northern Ireland Development Agency) stock
would have been deemed worthless if he sold stock under this offering. The
DeLorean Manufacturing Company was the Ski resort snow plow/rescue/trail
grooming machines. There is prima facie evidence that DeLorean and Anthony
Colin Bruce Chapman committed an illegal act, which they funneled off the
missing 17.65 million missing from DeLorean Motor Cars Ltd Belfast through
Swiss Bank account called GPD. Fred Bushell Lotus chairman of the board went
to prison in 1992 for his involvement.
Money raised through the DeLorean research & development partnership
through the Oppenheimer & Co. never went to Lotus at all it went to GPD. It
is alleged that DeLorean was able to "somehow" purchase this snow grooming
company called Logan Manufacturing of Logan Utah with this money from GPD.
After the takeover the name was changed to DeLorean Manufacturing Company.
Additionally there was a Nevada based company called Christina, named after
his ex-wife.
I had a wonderful conversation with a senior engineer at the DeLorean
Motor Company during the trip to Belfast Northern Ireland in 1997. He was
able to concur and say that what is written about the man, company, and the
car in the book "Dream Maker the rise and fall of John Z, DeLorean" is the
most accurate description and account of the history of the company. He ended
saying that there are 4 books and countless newspaper articles in the
financial times and wall street journal that point to the same conclusion.
