Robert, The reason for your lamp melt down was because someone replaced the factory bulb with a high wattage replacement. Safety perimeters for all light fixtures are based on a specific wattage bulb, exceeding these limits can cause the fixture to melt or burn. This holds true for not only automotive lighting but residential and commercial lighting fixtures as well. We no of no change in the terminal size or type for the entire 8300+ cars produced.
