[DML] transmission conversion question 2

Hey thanks a lot for the advice. The reason I ask is because I am in the
market for a D and trying to decide whether it will be worth it to spend
less on a really good deal on an automatic that I found as opposed to
spending more on what I originally had decided I wanted (manual). I am
accustomed to a 5 speed, and I enjoy driving a stick. I also hear that the
automatics are sluggish. Do the automatic D's drive any differently from
the manuals? I mean, autos of the early eighties weren't nearly as smooth
as modern ones, right?
