[DML] Overflow tank question

Dear List,
I recently discovered that my overheating problem is being caused by
a bad seal at the juncture between the coolant overflow tank (aluminum
in this case) and the radiator cap. I just replaced the cap, but am
still having the problem.
My question therefore is does anyone know of a product that will
seal or coat the overflow tank opening to provide a tighter/better fit
for the cap? (I'm thinking along the lines of a 3M product here) Is this
even possible? Is there a better solution? HELP!!
