This is one of the toughest techical problems I have faced in restoring
cars for over the last 30 years. The best method is to sand blast the
connector. But this can be messy. Sometimes a little carbertor cleaner
or penetrating oil help. 

When I can't sand blast, I dip the connector in phosphoric acid metal
prep. Then rinse in water. I am also experimenting with TARNEX now.
