David,

I had a similar starting problem when I bought my DeLorean. A little 
research revealed that the starter solenoid modification had never been 
performed. Since I'm no mechanic, I took the service bulletin that describes 
this procedure, sorry I don't remember the number, and had my mechanic 
perform it. The car has started ever since with the turn of the key. You 
might want to check this out before buying a new starter.
