So what you're saying is that there were a couple of screenwriters hanging
out and thinking, "I know, let's make a time travel movie where that
Delorean car is the time travel machine..." "Yeah!" "That's a great idea!"
"Why don't we get that Alex Keaton guy from Family Ties to be in it!"
"Yeah!"

There is no way, that without the three BTTF movies, which spanned what?
Three? Four years? That Joe Average himself would have known about the
DeLorean. How many "Joe Average" people know what a DeTomaso is? How about
a Vector? What if The Bandit drove a DeTomaso? People would know what one
is then...

Anyway...
