[DML] Re: DMC kit car?

I have to step in and speak on this point guys. I have been in the market
recently for a Lamborghini Diablo kit car. I have sent away for video's/spec
sheets from all the major kit car producers listed in Kit Car Monthly (The
big monthly magazine puported to be the authority on the subject). In all my
research I have discovered that the primary reason people build kits or buy
them alreadybuilt (called "turnkey" kits) is to own a vehicle which they
could never actually afford in their lifetime.

Most people, dare I say 99.9% of all people, will never drive, own or in
some cases even see a car like a Lamborghini. This is of course due to the
price tag which can approach over a quarter of a million dollars for newer
models. The DeLorean however was designed to be an affordable sports car and
in fact still is! The point is this- why build a kit car Delorean when for
the same price you can have a real one???

I do not know what it would cost if a DeLorean kit car was to be
produced. I never heard mention of one in all my research. However, I can
tell you from looking into a Lamborghini Kit car, that the costs are not all
that cheap...unless you compare the cost to a real Lamborghini.

First of all, you need a doner car...typically a Fierro. You need an
engine. You need the kit ($5,000.00-$10,000.00). Then you need the labor and
parts, including interior. The Turnkey cars I saw were on average $25,000.00-
$40,000.00. I firmly believe that a DeLorean kit car would require no less
work or materials and would cost the same. I mean, if a "mint" DeLorean runs
between $20,000.00 - $25,000.00, who would spend this amount or more on a kit
car. You could own the real thing!!!! I couldn't see building a kit for less
then $20,000.00- even if you do the work yourself!

Keep the dream alive and keep it real!
