I hear ya brother.

I looked for TWO YEARS all across Ontario for a solid Delorean. I saw
alot of junkers, a few passable ones... and even a few decent ones, but
nothing I'd want to own. I wanted a daily driver car, not a project
car. I ultimately had to fly to San Diego, CA to find and buy one.

If it is in your budget, I recommend going to CA to at least see a few.
The worst delorean in CA was better than the finest I could find
around Ontario. I saw far too many 'guidoed' cars, like monster
engines... or worse: painted deloreans. Also, I found alot of people
said their delorean was a "9/10" but they really were more like 5/10's.
Alot can happen to a car in 20 years, especially if it has changed
hands many times. Be careful to inspect wiring, engine, cockpit...
there can be many mistakes which will cost you to repair.

The car I ended up buying and having shipped back to me in Ottawa was a
81 5 speed with grey interior (I recommend Grey because Black is
unbelievably hot in the summer). Heck, Grey is hot too, but not as
hot. I only know of one other Delorean in Ottawa, but he never drives
it. It is in storage. Having a Delorean here is like owning a
spaceship that travels to mars: everyone has heard of such things, but
nobody has actually seen one until they see mine. It is a bit
unnerving actually... I can never get out of my car without someone
making a BTTF (flux capacitor, Marty McFly) comment, or someone wanting
a tour. That's ok sometimes, but not when I'm in a hurry. I'm sure
that I'm not the only person to have this problem.

Consider the following:

Owning is only the first step in the Delorean experience. Finding a
mechanic within 1000 miles of where you live is also a big problem. I
found a guy in Ottawa who knows the Volvo engine the DMC has, as well
as the fuel injection system.

But as for the rest, you're on your own. Since I'm a "long distance"
owner (ie: in Canada), the best place I have found to buy parts and to
just talk to someone who cares and who knows the car inside out is PJ
Grady www.pjgrady.com They also have some really cool 'zilla' products
which make the car alot more wonderful. IMHO, PJGrady is the best for
service, price and proximity (New York State).

I was just in Toronto seeing "Forever Swing" on Yonge. I brought my
delorean. The day after, I parked next to a Ferrari ... needless to
say the Delorean caught more stares and gasps than the red monster
parked next to me.

What type of budget are you on? I spent about $30,000 CDN (about
$17,500 US) all told getting my car back from California. I still have
my notes on some of the 'project cars' out here in Ontario if you're
looking for a starter. Just let me know.

Best regards,

J. Robbins
