Use paint thinner or benzene or lighter fluid to remove old tape adhesive 
residue. These will not melt or destroys the painted or the plastic finish. 
Then clean surface with Windex or mild cleaners to remove oily or residual 
left.

Acetone will etch, melt or destroy the paint finish and the plastic surfaces. 
Be careful when you use acetone! It is not good for plastic and painted 
surface. It is good for bare metal and other resistive surfaces. Check 
before using on surfaces.
