That certainly sound like a problem with your air/fuel mixture. And
while you're right that the work performed wouldn't have affected
this condition, something else could have.
Have you been working on anything in the engine compartment in the
time since? It could be a loose hose, or something else causing a
vacuum leak. That would mess up the A/F mixture, and would cause the
engine to surge, as the LAMBDA system tried to correct the fuel
mixture.
