[DML] plastic ignition distributor supports

Does anyone know how these attach to the distributor?

It is part numbers 102686  and 102685.  I re-assembled my ignition 
distributor some time ago, and then I found these.  Do I need them, 
and if so, do I need to remove the vacuum advance canister to attach 
them or?
