Something I once thought might work, for larger
dings/creases/holes/etc, is have a welder lay some stainless bead on
it. Now, what was an indentation is a big glob of stainless steel.
It seems to me, then taking a grinder or flap wheel to level the
surface, followed by the usual regraining procedures should make it
look as good as original.
Does this make sense? It really seems that no ding/hole should be
unrepairable from this standpoint. As long as the overall shape of
the panel is still there.
