You could fit a short piece of copper tubing into the hose. If
necessary you can use it to add another short piece of hose to make it
even longer. After you get it in just remove the extra hose and copper
tubing. Pull the bottom off the cannister and check the filter as long
as you have it out. Make sure the hose is not plugged up. I agree that
it is tight in there but I guess I have smaller hands than you. Maybe
take the hose off the cannister and stick it in the hole first then
attach it to the cannister. If the hose it too short that may be your
problem.
