[DML] Teeny Tiny Ground wires

In the process of cleaning up around my luggage compartment and
windshield headers, I keep finding these little tiny ground wires that
are about as thick as a piece of string.  They are usually corroded
very badly when I find them and fall apart easily.  Is it necessary to
replace these or are they just there for good measure?  One place in
particular I found a few is underneath the rubber strips on the sides
of the luggage compartment.
