That's actually been done. You can buy the flap door and hinge parts 
from the vendors (still plenty available). Bob Brandys did this a few 
years ago on his BTTF car. You have to cut the hood, but the pattern 
is already there in the fiberglass. The obvious tough part is 
flanging the cut-out edge over without kinking things up.
