Probably the little black idle control computer behind the drivers
seat, has two connectors. When it goes to the high-idle condition,
reach back there and unplug it. If the idle settles down (or even
dies) the box has failed.

The RPM relay shuts off the fuel pump if it doesn't sense the engine
running
within a limited time frame. By turning the ignition off and then retrying
you start the cycle again and the pump runs again for a short time. If the
car has sat for a long time a couple of short bursts of the starter with
ignition off in between will work while continual cranking won't. I
wouldn't
keep a maintainer on the battery myself as the constant electrical current
coupled with the variety of dissimilar metals in the engine could create
an
electrolysis condition that could work at corroding the engines interior
castings. A battery cutoff switch would be much better in my oppinion.

Subject: Video Swap???
The two hour pilot of the old Matt Houston show from 1981 had the hero
driving all over L.A. in his DeLorean. I suspect either John DeLorean knew
someone connected to the production or the company paid to have them use
the
car. In any event the car got a lot of air time during the two hours. I
found a vhs tape of the show after a lot of looking and would like to
trade a
copy to someone in return for them making a dvd copy of the tape for me.
If
anyone has the where-with-all to make a dvd from this tape and is
interested let me know and we'll work it out. Please email me privately.

incorrectly from the thremo vacuum switch.

This is going to take a little troubleshooting. I am guessing a
problem with the RPM relay, a weak fuel pump, a kinked or bad fuel
pick-up hose, or a combination of the above. It could also be a
problem with the bypass relay for the ballast resistor, weak coil,
cold start valve system, worn plugs, bad ignition wires. Start with
the fuel tank. Drain and inspect it and and all the parts inside.
Next, when you try to start it cold watch the fuel pump to see how
long it runs. It should run for more than a couple of seconds. Next
see if there is power on the cold start valve while the engine is
cranking.

Hi all,
Does anybody need their DeLorean - or any car - driven up one-way from
Florida (Tampa Area) to New York (Poughkeepsie area)?
This may sound strange but I will be needing a one-way ride (I don't fly)
from FL to NY around the second week in January. I'm planning on renting a
car but thought I'd throw this offer out there.
If not does anybody know of a good place to post this kind of question?
I'm over 40 years old and haven't a mark on my license. I'll treat any car
very carefully - as if it were my own. Of course no charge.

I had the SAME problem with my car. Turns out the battery was going on
me. Once I replaced it, the problem went away. Strangely enough, it
SEEMED like the car was ok because it was cranking, but it could not get
enough juice to catch. Once it ran for a while, it was charged enough
to run and start for the rest of the day, or the next day. Let it sit
for 4-5 days or more, and I was back in the same situation.

never varies... meaning, if it sits for a while, it takes just as
long to start it every time..it's not something that 'may start
right away'...it's always a couple minutes of this process.
If I go driving around for a while and then shut it off and go to
start it again, it starts right up. Let it sit for the rest of the
day, it still starts up just fine. It just doesn't like prolonged
periods of sitting. I'm just trying to figure out what technically
may be causing this issue, so I can find a way around having to do
the circus act with the starter...it's definitely not helping the
longevity of the starter...:)

I don't know the type of battery you have, but convential batteries
on a charger will release a vapor that will corrode the contacts in
the relay compartment just above the battery. I would be suspect of
the connections in the relay compartment, especially at the RPM
relay.
