I would agree that the Delorean should NOT be on that list. The list stating that the car is overweight, under developed, and over complicated baffles me. The DMC-12 is just over 2800lbs and its design is quite intelligent. There is no mention of it being underpowered. Considering the time period in automotive history the Delorean was by far one of the better cars on the road. Like most automotive magazines I take their opinions very lightly. Most of their content is driven to spur on sales of the publication and to boast new products that are sponsored by their respective vendors. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 21:05:25 -0000 From: "cruznmd" <racuti1@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Ignition system failure = faulty coil Ok peoples, here's what went down: After spending some time with John on the phone, I got back to the car and started running tests. I had vdc when cranking, (blu/yellow) vdc in the "run" position, The resistance across the pulse (pickup) coil was correct, the coil had the correct voltage, resistance across the coil from + to - was correct, the resistance from + to the socket was correct. I used an icepick light to see the pulse on the coil, I heard the RPM relay doing it's thing. I couldn't find anything wrong except for the fact that a test plug in the coil wouldn't spark. Now if the coil is defective, I'd expect to find a bad resistance reading but I didn't. But hey, follow the bouncing ball. I had "flow" everywhere except the coil tower so a new coil and $47.00 later I'm back on the road. Here's the sand in my eye: I had bought a "new" Accel SuperStock coil. When I opened the box, the paint was a much lighter/worn out shade of yellow than I expected. It had small ding in the bottom and some scratches. I shrugged and put it in. I -should- have gone back to Pep Boys and asked them "What the hell is this?!" Apparently someone took an old coil and slapped a shiny sticker on it. Now, for my trouble I have a stock coil in the car because the parts house didn't have anything else and I had to get the car out of there. Oh well. At least the solution was simple..and it wasn't raining. Thanks for the help guys. [10/27 22:52] (244) Digger: Minox - I have a funny Delorean story for you if you would like [10/27 22:52] (2) Minox: sure thing [10/27 22:53] (244) Digger: Minox - an old girlfriend of mine used to work at a volvo dealership. On occasion, she would get Delorean nuts...err..clients in looking for parts. One day this fellow comes in [10/27 22:53] (2) Minox: ok... [10/27 22:54] (244) Digger: Minox - looking for a fuel pump. Her response was, "What colour is the interior?" As you know, they changed fuel pumps and that went along with the interiour colour change [10/27 22:54] (2) Minox: not true [10/27 22:54] (2) Minox: but go on [10/27 22:54] (244) Digger: Minox - one fuel pump was readily available, one was not. The easiest way to tell was by the interiour of the car colour. [10/27 22:54] (2) Minox: not true [10/27 22:54] (2) Minox: Deloreans were grey or black from 1981 to 1983 [10/27 22:55] (2) Minox: no note in fuel pump changes in regards to color [10/27 22:55] (244) Digger: Minox - well the client mis-understood, and they went several rounds akin to "Who is on First?" before he understood what she was driving at [10/27 22:55] (2) Minox: in 81 they were mostly black but some were grey [10/27 22:55] (244) Digger: Minox - gotcha, I'm just relating to what she had told me [10/27 22:56] (244) Digger: and for her dealer, if the interiour was black, they were good to go, otherwise the client was SOL [10/27 22:56] (244) Digger: Minox - only Delorean story I know, me I just drive the Italian stuff Michael vin 6067 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Your use of Yahoo!
