Subject: Another (but different) problem with starting.
Granted, my car startes GREAT compared to some... and to my old D.
But it take maybe 2 or 3 seconds of cranking or have my engine kick
over.
I think I know why... but not how to fix it.
Normally you should be able you turn the key to the 'click' before
START and hear the fuel pump energize, right? I cannot hear it. BUT
if i click the key over to start VERY briefly (not giving the engine
a chance to turn over) you can then hear the pump energizing over the
engine cranking if you listen closely. THEN if you try to start the
car again it fires up Perfectly (fuel system having full pressure now)
Any idea why this might be? It's not a huge problem but all the same
I'd like it fixed.

I can chime in on an overheat problem I was having that Mike Cohee helped me
with.
I had installed a whole new cooling system along with the self-bleed kit to
assist in the process. Despite this, I was still getting intermittent
overheat problems with the system.
Mike, armed with the mighty knowledge of Walt, recommended that I pull the
top hose off the right side of the radiator. I believe this is the intake
hose for the radiator itself. He told me that if there was air still in the
system, you'd hear a loud sucking sound followed by a rush of coolant (oh
behave!). Sure enough, I had enough air o'plenty all up in that mofo.
I was amazed how much coolant it took after I got the air out.
Needless to say, I haven't had an overheat since.

I second this!...when i search archives before posting I can
sometimes find almost the exact problem that someone else had but
more often than not i read all the suggestions but never find out how
it was resolved...I just assumed the owner gave up and sold the
car :-)...whenever I get a problem solved I always post how it was
resolved, who helped me and how angry my wife is for me being in the
garage so long fixing it :-)

the rear of the car. It seems that in their original position they scoop up
dust and dirt until they get really muffled. Actualy I think I switched the

First off, What's a Dizzy? On to the problem, make sure the frequency
valve is buzzing. Put the timing light back on and check the vacuum
advance AND the mechanical advance. To do it first plug the vacuum
hose to the distributer. Now with the light on and the engine running
watch the timing mark as you increase the speed of the motor, you
should see the mark move. Now reconnect the vacuum hose and try again.
This time you should see a lot more advance. Make sure the air sensor
plate isn't rubbing on the side of the body, it is centered in the
throat. You didn't say you replaced the air filter, pull it out and
inspect it, if it is really dirty replace it. I have to assume that
all the parts you replaced are good and you did it correctly because
if you have a bad spark plug or you switched an ignition wire it could
cause this. Make sure that there is a plug in the spot over the
mixture screw and there are no big vacuum leaks.

Well, I guess someone at DW must read the DML because I just got 2
DW'S in the mail! It took shaming them in public to get what I was
supposed to have in the first place. There seems to have been a large
gap from Summer 2002 to Spring 2003. After having read the "latest" DW
I was rather disappointed but after having been treated the way I was
I can now understand why they aren't getting the articles contributed
like they used to. I will not be submitting any more articles to them
and I for one won't miss getting DW. If you thought the previous
issues looked like a travel magazine then you won't appreciate the
latest one! I do have to say that is a very nicely done publication
but for those of us that want some substance it is lacking. BTW many
people have responded to my posting of this topic offlist, I guess
they don't want to p-ss off Mr Bernstein. The latest issue looks like
it was published by the Canadian Tourism Bureau. Timing in life is
everything, too bad this mag was published right after the SARS scare.
At least it is about Montreal and not Toronto. Just my Humble Opinion.

In my opinion, Dave is the definitive authority on restoring cars,
let alone a DeLorean. 'Nuff said on that.
The part I most agree with, is the part about the "project car
spiral". I was in the Persian Gulf, barricaded in my hotel room on
Sept. 11th last year when I decided I would do this. I purposefully
bought a DeLorean that needed work because I was tired of geeking out
on my computer in the basement and wanted a serious project. I love
cars.
Now that I have it, I find myself fighting the spiral once in a while
when the money dries up. It's a race, between your wallet and the
clock, and your patience. If I made a single dollar less per hour
than I do now, I'd might regret it. (of course, raining for 30
straight days doesn't help)
I must be pretty serious about it though..I'm so intense that my wife
looked me square in the eye last week and said "I want one too".

The horns do indeed have the possibility to scoop up debris from the
road. And dirt an insects as well if you car has ever sat for any
period of time. Facing them back though, isn't something that I'd
reccomend. Even if the new ones only last half of the 46K miles that
the old ones have, I wouldn't sacrifice any portion of the safety of
having the full sound point forward, just to keep the horns from
getting clogged.
If you're concerned about damaging the horns, the I would rather
point them down like the horns on conventional cars to keep road
grime out. Otherwise, it's not really a high concern.

Subject: clutch fork clip broke: Any suggestions?
Welp, we were working on the tranny and installing the clutch fork but the
clip broke on it. I am going to see if I can have it welded back together
but was wondering if this ever happened to anyone else and, if so, how did
you go about fixing it? I've heard this is a common problem of them
breaking however, this part is no longer available unless from a parts car.
Has anyone found a cross reference for this part?
