I just read the article that Dave provided.

One question that I have is what size are the o-rings that you replaced.

A parts list would be great.

Thanks for the good information.

Funny you should ask....

Dave Stragand just did a nice tech writeup on this.

This is a carbon copy of the issue I had last week. I had my starter
re-furbished, ie cleaned new bushes, winding checked etc, it now
starts on the button. If you can'y get this done it's probably a new
starter....

Take the starter to a parts house with test stand (most chains have
one). If it's bad, order replacement from D vendor or perhaps John
Hervey could rebuild.

If car is straight drive and you've got a couple of friends handy,
just try a push start. Even faster and easier diagnosis.

Michael,

If you do not want to (or cannot) attempt some troubleshooting, try
to contact someone from a nearby or local Delorean club to help you
check out other possible causes for this problem. This problem may
be due to a bad ground (or dirty ground) which may be a simple fix.

Don't forget to check DMCNEWS Tech page, www.dmcnews.com/techmain.htm
for Delorean troubleshooting recommendations and the DML archives on
bad and dirty grounds. I think DMC Joe is more pre-occupied with
other things right now, but may not be too busy to offer advice.

Later,
Rich W.

I might be wrong but it sounds like the fuel filter?? I would
probably check that out..

Michael,

The starter does sound like the part that causing your problem, but double

check for a bad connection in the wiring. You can also try lightly taping

the starter with a hammer. If the starter cranks after taping it, then
you
have found your problem.

I would recommend trying an import shop that works on Volvos or Renaults,
they shoulden't have any problem replacing it for you. Its not a hard
starter to replace.

Hope this helps,
Andrew

>From the symptoms you describe it could very well be the starter. This
is not too difficult a job so you might want give it a try. The first
thing you must do is get the car up in the air. For this you need a
jack and 2 jackstands for the rear. You should do this on a flat,
level floor. Once you get the car up use a test light or a meter and
look for voltage at the small (white-red) wire on the starter when
someone else tries to start the motor. If you have voltage and you
hear the solenoid clicking then make sure you have battery voltage on
the big wire at the starter. If you have the voltages and the starter
isn't working then it has to come out. Refer to M:02:01-04 for the
complete remove, replace, and troubleshooting procedure. It is not
that difficult to remove. It is best not to try having it rebuilt as
most shops won't have the parts needed to do a thourgh job. Either try
a Volvo dealer or a Delorean vender for a new or rebuilt unit. If you
don't get voltage on the small (white-red) wire it could be a bad
starter inhibit relay. You didn't say if it was an automatic. Make
sure it is in Park. You could have a bad neutral start switch or a
wiring problem.

The DML had a thread on a second plate located next to the VIN plate that
no one could figure out why or where it came from on some cars. I asked
George Crane and here is his response. I hope this answers your
questions)

Just thought I would pass along that it looks as if we will be in a
convention center all three days. We just got the OK to hold the Friday
night event in the Grand Hotel Convention Center. (Still working on costs)

So this means that we will have the Smoky Shadows Convention Center
Thursday
evening, and the Grand Convention Center on Friday evening and all day
Saturday.

We had the food here for New Years and it was great so we are looking
forward
to that too.

For those of you at Memphis and in particular at the Hollywood Casino on
Friday night. This Convention Center is about 4 to 5 times the size of
the
Hollywood.
Space will not be an issue plus we have a full stage.

For those of you into gospel music, the Sunday Gospel show is recorded
here
every Sunday so if you tune in you can see how big it is.

I have been getting a lot of e-mails from new owners/members wanting
information and planning on going and its looking again like we could be
half
new people and half existing. If it is it will be the third show in a row

with that kind of split indicating there is still room to grow.

There are plenty of rooms that is not an issue this year. (At least at
this
point)
We have 200 rooms reserved with about 100 remaining in all price ranges.

We are working on our special guests and The Dragon Run on Friday.

I do want to begin to push The Comedy Barn.

I will post three times that you could break away from the car show to see

this Comedy Barn Show. Of all the shows we went to in Pigeon Fore we
really
enjoyed this one and its a must see. It will not be part of the DeLorean
Car
Show sponsored event but we will give you information and free time to see

it. You will be sorry if you miss it.

We also decided on doing a BBQ on Thursday and we are working on the
details.
For those of you non meat eating guests we will as usual have at least
one
item on the buffet that is non meat each night.

Last time it was Egg plant parmesan, meatless spaghetti plus the Friday
Dinner.

Its still over a year away but I remember Memphis, it seemed so far off
then
wham it was here.

Hope you all made out OK from the snow.

See ya soon

And wait till you see Curtis Car. We are also getting more cars lined up
for
the show that are in the Rare and unusual categories and I do not mean
necessarily modified Deloreans.
