Are you sure the second one didn't say exhaust manifold gasket? That's the most likely scenario. The exhaust manifold gaskets go out on the DeLorean quite often. I need to do that repair to my car now. You can probably just take it to another emissions shop and they'll pass it. A bad head gasket would never give the same symptoms as a cracked exhaust manifold. I've been a DeLorean owner for several years now but recently I've been thinking of upgrading (performance-wise, especially) to a Lotus Esprit. Well, I've been doing some research on it and let me tell you...the prices for Lotus parts make prices of DeLorean parts look like a pittance. For example: Wheel lug bolts $17 each Suspension bushings $19 to $50 each Spark plugs $27 each Esprit (Renault) gearbox $16,000 (I just bought a NEW DeLorean transmission for $3,000) 910 (4-cyl turbo) Engine $42,000 Man, that twin turbo or supercharging kit is starting to look pretty good, actually. So, next time you call Warren at DMC Houston and complain that the *whatever* is too expensive, think about those poor Lotus owners out there. The worst part is, they don't turn nearly as many heads as we do. ;) --Rob Hook P.S. And as for the person who asked if the Lotus V8 radiator would fit a DeLorean, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU DO THAT? ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2000 11:23:38 -0400 From: "Danrc30" <Danrc30@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: exhaust manifold If you're hearing a "tapping" noise, it's most likely a bad exhause manifold gaskit. You might have a broken stud which makes the manifold pull away from the engine and there's exhaust leak and your tapping sound. I think that's what the inspection guy was talking about. I doubt it's cracked because they are so thick, but it is possible. If it's still good, the manifold needs to be resurfaced before being reinstalled. I'd replace all the studs while you're there if I were you. I got my exhaust service kit from PJGrady www.PJGrady.com It has everything you need for both sides of the engine. Mine works great now! :-) ---Dan I recently bought a Delorean, and the state of virginia is requiring me to get an emissions test. BTW, I read last week in a Dr.'s office that the overall collector car market has cooled. (Architectural Digest, Motoring edition, I think it was.) No mention of the DeLorean, but they said the price of a gullwing Mercedes has dropped from around $500,000 to about $300,000. I'm so glad I bought a D "instead"...LOL I've often said, don't buy a car for an investment, buy it for the fun of it. Gee, do you suppose there's a Mercedes gullwing owners web mailing list out there sinking the market by asking how to fix droopy doors??? ;) -Wayne Living the dream! 11174 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 7 Date: Mon, 04 Sep 2000 06:04:00 -0000 From: "Robert Rooney" <dmcvegas@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Fuel Filter Woes!! When I replaced the pick up line on my car I noticed that the fuel pump screen (the "filter baggy") was larger then the hose. What the manufacturer (or somebody else did) was the put glue, or some type of resin inside the lip that connects to the hose to fill the gap to make a snug fitting. What appears to have happened was the resin had started to rot and chunk off. When I removed the hose from the sump, the screen finally fell off (since replaced). What it sounds like is some of the resin has gotten sucked up the hose and is clogging it. The pump is probably buzzing from being starved, and this in turn is causing the "bucking" of the car durring acceleration. Best case: the resin is stuck in the pick up hose, and will have to be removed/flushed out. Worse case: resin may have gone thru the hose and ended up in the pump potenialy damaging it. In any case running the pump w/o a screen on it can reduce the life of both the fuel pump and the fuel filter if not cause premature failure by getting them clogged up. -Robert vin 6585 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxx, Cliff Andrews <fen2k@xxxx> wrote: > Question for you guys... well my delorean has been > exhibiting "bucking" on acceleration... first thing i > did was replace my pickup line.. i did this... still > happing.. well.. i went back and checked today.. > > My fuel filter baggy at the end of the pickup line has > broken off the end of the hose and i have driven the > car twice since this has happened.. so im pumping in > unfiltered gas into the pump. The reason I asked that question is that I found a NEW Lotus v-8 radiator for less than a new Delorean Radiator, also if you order the parts (lotus parts)directly from (Britian) the factory they are priced to about what the Delorean parts are(for a 1984 Lotus)as a friend of mine is Restoring a 1984,and found that the prices in this country are as you said (Waaayyy over priced). It's really hard to determine weather or not the value of the wrist watch will ever increase, but the future is starting to look bright. Even if it is only a tiny spark of possibility... One it's own, this is pretty interesting enough: Packard Motor Company is up for sale. Yes the same company that JZD himself once worked for! And it's up for auction on ebay! Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&item=425167008&r=0&t=0 According to the description of the item, packard even has a working prototype vehicle. Included in the auction are the prototypes and even tooling to help build the cars including body dies! The only thing that hasn't been done is EPA testing & the raising of sufficent working capitol. Obviously if this one little company can come along this far with the development of the car, the D2 has the very same potential if not a better chance! The sight of a brand-new DeLorean sitting on the showroom floor may be a closer reality then first thought possible... -Robert vin 6585 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxx, "TK" <TKNBA@xxxx> wrote: > i was wondering about the dmc2 timepiece that is being offered and i'm curious of other peoples thoughts on if you think it is a good investment or not. > > As most know its selling for about 3,000 dollars and reserves a new dmc2 sports car in your name, ( which who knows will actually come out) > > but no matter if the car comes out or not the timepiece , in itself ,a stainless steel wonder , a part of the delorean history, may be worth something more in the future, > > and i suppose if the new car comes out , the watch may be worth even more than if it doesn't-------- > imagine owning a car and always being able to show it off by showing people your wrist , people that buy the car and didn't hear about the offer, like we did, will want one. > > not to mention that the new car in itself might or might not be a good investment................only time will tell > > so i would like to hear some thoughts on if you think the timepiece or the new car is a good investment to make. > > -TK > > VIN- hopefully by next spring- NYC AREA IF SELLERS ARE WONDERING (10,000 market ) > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 10 Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2000 14:34:44 -0700 From: "Gabe W." <thecreech@xxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: dmc2 watch a good investment? I don't think they are selling it as an investment. I think their selling it to to people who like Deloreans. For example, its rare, when restoring a car your going to make a profit, its not an investment type of thing. People do it because they love the car and have fun doing it. Watch buyers want to support the DMC2 because of their love for the original. ----- Original Message ----- From: "TK" <TKNBA@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, September 03, 2000 12:30 PM Subject: [DML] dmc2 watch a good investment? > i was wondering about the dmc2 timepiece that is being offered and i'm curious of other peoples thoughts on if you think it is a good investment or not. > > -TK > > VIN- hopefully by next spring- NYC AREA IF SELLERS ARE WONDERING (10,000 market ) > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > Before posting messages or replies, see the posting policy rules at: > www.dmcnews.com/Admin/rules.html > > To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: > moderator@xxxxxxxxxxx > > ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
