If it is leaking the hose is too short to repair. You cannot cut off the barb and reinsert it without the hose being too short. You will have to replace the hose. Before you do that it is possible that the bolt holding the barb onto the cold start valve has loosened. Before tightening it though you should replace the 2 copper gaskets. If you don't have any a trick I have used is to heat the old ones up to anneal them so they can be reused. After annealing they are softened and when you reinstall them they are "work hardened" again. If they are not deformed in shape or size this can be done repeatedly. You are correct in not taking any chances with a fuel leak, with the pressures in the system any leak can become a miniature blow-torch. We has 7 last year, but only about 4 of us pre-registered. If you plan to attend, pre-register and we can qualify for more trophies! Last year we were in the back in the shade next to the Merkur XR4Ti group. As a side note, the gull wing Mercedes won Best of Show last year. > -----Original Message----- > From: Sean Howley [mailto:delorsche@xxxxxxx] > Subject: Re: [DML] Eurofest 2002 > > To expand on what Brian said, for the past 4 years (these are the only > years that I have participated), we have had our own class, but we have not yet had enough cars show for there to be 3 places awarded. > Sean Howley > VIN#2345 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 3 Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 08:27:53 -0000 From: "jamesrguk" <James_rg@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re. Brakes and servicing of callipers. Hi all, The brakes on the DeLorean can be very effective but there are many things you can do to get the best from them. Firstly change your brake fluid and bleed the system, brake fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs atmospheric moisture, water squishes more than brake fluid hence spongy brakes. Also tyre choice is crucial, what's the point is stopping the wheel spinning if it is still sliding over the ground. I have been in a couple of DeLoreans among other cars with Pirelli tyres on and they seem to stick to the road very well. Servicing the calliper is not hard either if a bit messy. Remove the calliper pop out the pistons clean them with very fine wet and dry change the rubber seals if required (service kits are available which are quite cheap). Install pistons into the calliper install back on car and bleed the system. I did this to my front callipers last weekend as I had a shake under braking and not the car brakes better than ever. There are also vented disks and calliper upgrades available from the same guy who does the Cat by-pass I think he is from Holland (I am sure someone else on the list knows his details) they looked quite impressive. And braided brake lines also take some of the squishiness out of the braking system as they do not expand under braking as much as the original lines, or so I am told. Hope this helps James RG ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Sat, 31 Aug 2002 07:44:34 -0700 From: "IN2TIME" <Gary@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: DeLorean Rental in England If you would be interested in providing your DeLorean for a wedding in Bournemouth, England, please contact me privately for additional details.
