In addition to making sure that the gasket is being compressed all
around the two rear bumpers set the height of the hood. Screw them up
so they exert a slight upward pressure on the hood when closed and it
will keep the outer corners from shaking. While you are working on the
bonnet make sure the 2 brackets that are in fron of the bumpers are
lined up so that in the event of a crash they will capture the bumpers
and not allow the bonnet to intrude into the windshield. Check that
the latch on the bonnet is entering the lock in the center, I have
seen many cars where the latch rubbed on the side of the lock and the
latch bar was 1/2 worn through. To adjust you may have to enlarge the
holes in the lock where the bolts hold it to the body to move it over.
For your piece of mind add a back-up cable to open the bonnet in case
the cable breaks (see archives). The bonnet should "pop up" when you
pull the release so you don't need 2 hands to open. To adjust so this
happens you have to shorten the small spring in the lock. Inspect the
cable where it attaches to the release lever in the car. The cables
tend to fray and break by the lever. Make sure the light goes out as
you lower the bonnet too.

I want to share a very pleasant experience with you,
especially those of you with the twin turbo set-up.
I needed to replace my mufflers. Mufflers that size
are hard to find and when you do they are either
"stock" with too much back pressure or "gutless" with
way too much noise. After much research I decided
upon a set of custom, turbo, chambered mufflers with a
set of resonator tips. I ordered them from a place I
read about in one of the street rodder type mags.
The mufflers and tips were installed yesterday. They
are simply awesome. Practically no back pressure,
very well made (stainless, of course) and VERY
acceptable noise level with a pretty nice tone.
Twin turob'd or not, if you are thinking of a custom
muffler or exhaust system for your D, I'd stronly
recommend that you at least consider Stainless Works,
a division of Ohio Classic Street Rods, Inc. I'm very
staisfied.

I know we don't do much with "plugs" on this list, but

Subject: Low Mileage Emissions Exemption
I just found out that here in New Jersey there is such a thing as an
exemption for low mileage vehicles. If you drive less than 10,000
miles in 2 years you are eligable to waive the dyno test. To qualify
you must have been fully inspected prior so they can check the
mileage. This is great for me as I have regular plates on the car. My
insurance limits me to 2,500 miles a year anyway so now I don't have
to have the car put on the dyno. I am sure that in other States there
are similar rules for opting out of dyno testing. You should check
before you have to go. Although my car passes easily I don't like the
fact that they put it on a dyno and take the chance they will overheat
or damage my car! In New Jersey Parson's has the State contract to do
the emissions testing in the State centers. They get so much money per
car. When they exempt a car they get some amount less so they aren't
inclined to let everyone know that you can avoid the dyno. Some of the
testing personnel can't even drive a stick shift and there have been
cases of them having run-away cars with 4-wheel drive! The centers
can't dyno a 4-wheeler but sometimes they try anyway! This won't
exempt you from an idle tailpipe test but a Delorean can pass that
easily and with a lot less strain on the owner. It would be
interesting to find out how different States handle Deloreans, some
are more strict than others, New Jersey is nearly as bad as California
now. New Jersey is one of only 2 States that has a "Hybrid" progam.
That is it has State run inspection centers AND private inspection
centers. There is a big controversy about Parson's, they haven't met
time and testing criteria since getting the State contract. Whitman
who was Governor at the time has since moved on and is now IN CHARGE
OF THE FEDERAL EPA!!!!!!!! The present Governer is considering dumping
Parson's.

Hi All,
With Memphis approaching, my demeanor has become like that of the white
rabbit from Alice in Wonderland... but work still continues.
Aside from working every weeknight for the last two months on the car,
this past holiday weekend alone I spent a total of over 50 hours in the
garage trying to get the Vixen wrapped up in time for Memphis. But, on
the bright side... my shopping list has finally dwindled down to 0 items
(from 21 pages) and the car actually strongly resembles a DeLorean now in
most respects.
The body is most of the way on -- only the rear fascia remains to be
attached. On Saturday, I aligned the doors as best as I could, and
attached the fenders to match the doors. Then, the hood went on to align
with the fenders, and finally the front fascia to align with the fenders
and hood. I make it sound like it was easy, but it's not much fun to keep
moving everything around, and that whole front fascia area is (to me) the
worst designed component on the entire car.
The dash has been redyed (Plasti-Kote 408 Lt. Gray vinyl die is a spot-on
match) and installed with the new binnacle. I had a nasty scuff on the
instrument lens, but it buffed out quite nicely with a flannel wheel and
some plastic rouge. Infinity Kappa speakers have been installed all
around (3.5" up front, 5x7" rears) and sound just horrible. (Sorry, but
that factory stereo has got to go... but not quite yet.)
I also created the missing piece of my louver out of thin air and
fiberglass, and it doesn't look too bad if I say so myself. It's ready to
be painted either Krylon semi-flat black or Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner (to
match the engine cover) -- not sure which yet.
The seats are ready to have the new covers hog-ringed on shortly, and the
other 30-odd pieces of interior vinyl have already been cleaned,
straightened, and redyed in preparation for Final Assembly (hopefully
Saturday).
More later, but I've gotta go. I'm late, I'm late, DeLorean work cannot
wait! =)

Ineed, I just returned from testing hearing in Sallisaw. Bypassed I-40
bridge via Gore. If you take that route, allow extra time. The town's

Just a reminder, in case you missed the news this weekend, there is a
bridge collapse on I-40 in OK, due to a barge accident. Traffic is
being re-routed on secondary roads, but the recent reports suggest to
avoid the area if at all possible. The extent of the damage may have
this stretch of road shut down for months, a year or longer, once the
final assessment is made. Start looking for alternate routes now.
