Does anyone on this list own either of the 2 DeLoreans at the Sarasota
Classic Car Museum?
Does anyone have any background on them?

probably the other 3000+cars and owners do not have a computer and have no
way of accessing the internet, i myself didnt know nothing of this

Subject: A new alternator problem! (And a radar detector install to boot)
All my previous questions have been answered so well, so I have returned
with another! :)
I was experiencing very low voltage (like 8), particularly while at idle,
so I picked up the 150 amp alternator from John Hervey at specialtauto.com
(and it arrived incredibly fast--thanks John), but after installation,
I've run into a new problem: the field coil is getting no power.
I've checked the field coil supply wire with my multimeter and found no
power at all, ignition on or off. I traced the wire on back to the other
end of the harness, where it plugs into the back of the electrical
compartment and continuity is good. Has anyone seen this problem before?
Any tips on hunting it down?
In the meantime, I've hooked the field coil on the alternator directly to
the jumpstart post (only while driving, so I don't drain my battery) and
it works great. Voltage is back up to around 14 with all accessories off,
and around 13 with everything on. The alternator is making a strange
whistling noise, though, but only while under load. The frequency
increases as the engine speed does. It's definitely not a screeching from
a loose belt. I'm hoping/assuming (perhaps stupidly) that this noise is
just normal for this alternator. We'll see if the belt lasts I guess. :)
Now, the second part of my post. Yesterday I hardwired my Valentine 1
radar detector, with remote display. (For those who don't know the V1,
check out http://www.valentine1.com/ for more info.) I ran the main unit
power cord up under the front edge of the headliner, then down under the
moulding on the A pillar, then behind the dash, where it connects to the
V1's power breakout box, which is also plugged into the remote display,
mounted on the underside of the binnacle, allowing for perfect private
viewing while driving.
I've put up a few snapshots of the install at
http://yo.fuh-q.org/photos/?album=20020222 for anyone interested.

Richard, I know I'm late in answering you question about water pumps, But
if
you will look at my web site, I have original pumps in new and rebuilt. We
can press on your pulley or any competent shop can do it for you. I think
you'll fine the prices are very reasonable. If you have any questions, let
me
know. We have pressed on and off several pulley's.

You should also know that Don Steger sells and "alarm"
based system with actuator door launchers. Several of
us have had Don install them. They are SWEET!

A whistling alternator is a sign of it going bad....think of it as
a "warning" whistle. A good alternator should not whistle, one that
is about to quit will.

Subject: RE: better door "launchers"
I have had door launchers in my DeLorean for 4 years now.
I first install the VPA 15lb. Solenoids.
Then two years ago I swapped them out for 50lb Solenoids from Autoloc.
Your door strut and your torsion bars are not affected by the weight of
the
Solenoids that weigh only three pounds a piece. As long as you have good
struts installed you won't see a problem.
The worst load your torsion bars and struts will see is when the doors are
closed, not when there opened.
If you first want to see if your doors will be affected, hang a weight on
your door and see if there is a difference.
Solenoids VS Actuators. I don't know. The actuators I've seen max out at
15lb. of pull. If Darryl has or knows where to get actuators with more
pull
force. Then try his. I don't think that 15lb. is good enough, thats why I
swapped out my Solenoids for bigger ones.
Good Luck,
Mike

Hi I'm 17 and am the President of the Car Club at my high school,
Collegiate
in Richmond, VA. As a possible event, we would like to hold a car show
sometime in late spetemeber or october. Nothing is final or certain yet,
but
I would like to have the idea that IF our school held this car show WOULD
any
DeLoreans be able to attend. I don't need a garuntee you will attend, just
a
'yes' if its there. I used to own a DeLorean just as a side note, I miss

Subject: Re: Crossover pumps
I still have to say that the bolt on solution that Darryl sells is
the better way to go. Much easier, no risk in damaging a water pump
by pressing it on your self and readily available pumps (another
words cheaper). I had gotten my pump for $80.00 (brand new, not
rebuilt) and the pulley was $79.95. Not only that I have a lifetime
warranty on the pump which means a free replacement if it ever
decides to go on me in the future. Did i mention how awesome the
bright Billet aluminum water pump pulley looks in the engine
compartment? Hey Darryl, how about making some of the other pulleys
on the D's engine out of the same material to make it match? :)

Andrew,
Maybe your problem is that you hooked up the wrong wire. There are two
wires that go to the Ducy alternator, but John Hervey's only uses one of
them.

Subject: Delorean World Article
Hi All,
I just recieved the new issue of Delorean World magazine, for winter
2002. There's an article involving the Fall Foliage Tour on Long
Island that took place last October. In the pictures there is a
Delorean with a U.S. Flag in the rear quarter window that has a full
ground effects kit. This kit looked very nice, especially since the
car was also lowered. It wasn't gaudy, and it definately enhanced the
lines of the car, at least from what I could see. Does anyone know
who this owner is? Or, more specifically, where can I find that
ground effects kit, and what other kits will fit the Delorean? Again,
i'm only looking for a kit that is subtle, like the one in the
photos. If anyone can help, that would be great.
Sincerely,
Steve T.
