Shiraz,
Can you find the original shop that welded it? Maybe ask the previous
owner?
I'd bring it back to the original shop and ask why it wasn't welded
properly. If it's been welded that many times, they obviously have no idea
of how to weld properly. If they are a reputable shop, they should stand
behind their work.

If not, Bob Miller sells a lot of used parts. Try contacting him. He might
have what you need. If not, send me the disfigured part. I know a
machinist
that's a wizard on the milling machine as well as an incredible weldor.
Maybe he can help!

: "shirazcupala" Subject: Need used manual LH transmission bracket,
please!

This weekend while fixing a rear CV boot I found a nasty problem.
My LH (driver's side) manual transmission bracket is in 3 pieces.
It's been welded at least a half-dozen times and is now unusable.
Unfortunately none of the vendors have this part. I also checked
with a local junkyard that had a DeLorean but they don't have the
part either. I'm hoping that someone has a parts car or misc stash
with this part who would be willing to sell it to me. The part
number (for database lookup) is 106341. Please email me privately
if you can help me! shirazcupala (at) attbi.com

Thank you!
Shiraz

Cecil, State Farm has had the DeLorean on the list I know for 5 years due
to
the parts cost. They told me it was because of parts cost, $300.00 fender
VS
$1,000.00 fender + more. They did insure mine for full coverage for the
1st
year and after that my agent for 30 years said no more.

According to my Parts Manual the Clock was featured UP TO VIN 6158.

My car had/has the clock, but I can't say that its really helpfull for
telling time. First of all it runs fast about 5 minutes every week, it's
hard to adjust properly and is on a 12-hour scheme instead of 24.
And not the least problem; when I'm driving the clock is set into the
panel
too deep, so I can only see the upper halves of the numbers (when I'm
lucky).

Alls this was reason for me to take out the clock and filling up the hole
that remained with a special display for monitoring several functions on
the
car. SinceI had my accident past november I haven't been able to work on
this anymore, but I plan to have a small display showing operation and
cycling of both fans plus their reason to come on (AC, engine temp or
override) and the status of my alarmsystem. These six functions are just
enough to nicely fille the hole with something usefull.

When I finally finish it I'll post some pics somewhere...

Later model '81's had Craigs with the clock built in the display.

Subject: Re: Best Built DeLoreans (LONG)

You want to make an informed decision, whereby, you have knowledge
about
the DeLorean marque & wherewithal to correct any UNSEEN maladies. I
emphasize
unseen based on a recent event with another owner.
Another local car nut, purchased a Ferrari 512 m with 8,000 miles.
The
car was well loved, and possessed the proper/required service history as
well
as an outstanding provenance. However while driving the car for the very
first time, the engine quit running after a loud bang and subsequent wheel

lock up. The owner was devastated. The car was towed to a Ferrari
specialist
in Philadelphia (Alger Exotics). The diagnosis? Broken cam shaft which
allowed the valves to bend as they hit the top of the piston. Estimate to

rebuild the 12 cylinders? $45,000.00 Why did the cam break? During routine

maintenance the technician working on the car (at another dealership) made
a
mistake.

Based on the continuous information provided about DeLorean
automobile
reliability & ownership accolades from DeLorean World magazine, as well as

the information here on the list, ANY YEAR DeLorean is reliable as
demonstrated by the loving owner who has maintained the car to current
standards of DeLorean maintenance.

There are examples of owners that have found the proverbial "barn car"

put fresh gas in the tank and have not had to rebuild, restore,
rejuvenate,
etc., any part of the car.

However there is case after case of new owner, after purchasing a
"great
deal" discovers that their new DeLorean needs thousands or tens of
thousands
of dollars to bring the car to an acceptable condition. This isn't the end
of
the world, however like the Ferrari owner, the analogy of attending a
movie
is a fitting example;

The admission price to the movies (car purchase) is an excellent form
of
entertainment. However, the popcorn & soda (parts, insurance, maintenance,

etc.) are expensive. Again, you need to have the wherewithal and resources
to
assist you and your new toy.

As far as Daily Driver Vs Concourse (show car), high and low VIN
numbers,
Automatic Vs Manual transmission, model year, high Vs low mileage...none
of
this really matters as it is a personal preference. These
options/differences
exist for you to decide what particular features you want in a DeLorean,
as
based on the aforementioned array of production changes & options.

You should decide what particular year, VIN range, transmission
designation, mileage acceptability, etc., etc., etc., you want. Search the

market of DeLoreans for sale, look at several examples, take video&
pictures,
ask DeLorean owners past & present for their opinion(s) and purchase a car

that is a good fit for you...preferably the best daily driver for sale,
with
upgrades & necessary service requirements attended to. Unless you are
looking
for a project car to completely restore yourself.

The frustrations each "antique car owner" has encountered, it is
advised
that you buy a good car that has a complete service history, or a car that
is
well known from either a local or international club, specialist/service
center, or reformed owner.

Best Wishes,
Michael Pack

The instrument cluster illumination rheostat has a high failure rate. To
temporarily restore your instrument lighting access the under side of the
shifter panel and locate the wires leading to the rheostat. You will
notice
an unused rheostat terminal, unplug one of the wires from the adjoining
pair
and plug it into the unused terminal. This should restore your instrument
illumination to full brightness until you can replace the defective
rheostat.

You guys have been great about helping me find an old radio. I can't wait
to
get the old one out and finally have the console complete.

I will be replacing my drivers side window motor in the coming month
should
anyone want the old one. It still works but the bracket that holds the
upper
arm to the door is broken. Like the radios, it's free to a good home.
