They look like Fiberglass molds.  maybe they were used to make full size
models for the BTTF movies?  I can't imagine someone would buy something
like that and not know the story behind it.  I doubt the previous owner
(the guy who sold it to the person now selling them on ebay) would not
have a explanation for the item.  It is possible that if we knew the
real story behind them, they would be much less valuable.  :)

What molds are being sold on e-bay right now. Where did they come
from. Maybe there are some more laying around.  Ed

Adam,

DMC Houston just restored my car and made uprades to the engine, suspension, etc.  It now makes 197 hp and nearly linear torque as well.  I felt the proce was expensive but fair and the quality was high.  Steve Wynne, the owner, is a delight to deal with unlike DeLorean One's owner, Ed Bernstein - just my opinion but based on facts that matter to me - sounds like your P.J. Grady scenario.  I am from Connecticut and sent my car to Houston istead of Long Island which is ten miles away.

Dear Adam,
I was at one of DOA's National Conventions, I think it was Las
Vegas, in Sept. 1995. Steve's answer to the question of the
separarion was somthing like, there comes a time when you want to
move in different directions. I assumed from that, that he and Ed
were having differences of opinions. I left it at that.
As to where to have a car refurbished, depends a lot on location
and your bank roll.
Happy motoring,

You are correct.  DeLorean One and DMC Houston are not the same company.

I have been slammed enough in recent weeks for talking about things I
have heard, so I will not comment on D1 vs DMC(H) cars because I have
not compared them myself.

You may want to also check PJ Grady in New York.  I am familiar with
their quality of work, and highly recommend them.

Eleanor Rogers sells the "Island Twin Turbo" kit.  You can call her and
ask who else can install the kit for you.

If I were going to spend that kind of money on a kit, I'd make sure the
person installing it has done it before and they know what they are
doing.  In this case, Grady is your man.  I have seen Eleanor's personal
DeLorean at Rob's shop on occasion, and he has done all the work on my
island TT Car.

DMC Houston has been very helpful to me, D-ONE has never been wiling to
answer questions or help. Therefore, I have spent thousands with Houston and
will continue to do so. Customer service is really important insuch a limited
market.
The big difference between a $30,000 rehab and a $60,000 ONE is $30,000!

Hard to tell from the photos, but there was a version of the PRV that
had DOHC heads... that would explain why the sparkplugs are not in the
same location as the SOHC engine that we all know.

However, the DOHC setup was not used (in a production car) until 1991,
and it was a Peugeot not a Renault.

I will ask a few people I know about it.

You are correct that at one time DMC Houston and Delorean One in Ca.
were affiliated. That now is no longer the case, they are separate
entities. DMC Houston is the largest Dealer in Delorean parts and
services having aquired the inventory from Consolidated Industries
which was what was left after DMC went bankrupt. I leave it up to
James Espey to further clarify this for you and why they can sell a
rebuilt Delorean for $30,00 when D1 want $60,000. Your choice for the
center to refurbish a car is affected by many things including
reputation, recomendations, price, location, and selection among other
things. I don't have first-hand knowledge of either center's rebuilt
cars but everybody has their own definition of what "refurbished"
means from a cleaning and detailing to a complete overhaul or
replacement of all wearable parts and mechanicals. Compare warranties.
This can give you an indication of how much they trust their work and
how they will honour the warranty especially if you are not close by.
You could also comparison shop. There are 2 other shops that can get
you a car. One is in California and the other is in Long Island, NY.
If I were you and had $30,000 to spend I would go to E-Bay and buy
#502 for $20,000 and have it gone over. That is a car that will
appreciate in value AND be a blast to drive!

The only kit available is from Island Turbo but it isn't the twin. Or
you could buy #502 on E-Bay. The only parts I know of that are in
existance to recreate a twin set-up are in Rob's shop for the car he
has and I don't think you could get him to sell then even if you were
his brother! If you were on better terms with him and could examine
the parts I believe the parts could be copied and or recreated.
Someone else is also interesed in doing this but I don't know how far
along the project is.

I don't want to keep the thread going regarding quality control of the
Sun Star Model, but I broke down the other night and ordered 2 from
Houston thru the web site.  I was surprised this morning to see the UPS
truck bringing them so fast.  Even with using next day shipping, most
places never do it on time.  Kudos Guys!

Now as far as the model goes, it is even better then I had imagined.
And it was nice of them to reproduce mine so accurately (the hood lines,
grey interior, 5 speed, and so on).  Kidding of course, but I can
imagine being mildly disapointed if my real D was different then the
model version.  Please don't get upset about that last comment, all D's
are great in their own way, just the one they used happens to be one of
the more common verisons as it mine.

It is obvious that they didn't use a Concourse car for measuring, but no
ones perfect.

The one I opened works perfectly, doors hold up and such etc. etc. etc.

I have also ordered 2 of the BTTF versions from www.bttf.com and look
forward to it's arrival.

Thanks for the help!! I did check my door switches, and they were a mess!
They were loose and one of the upper connectors was contacting the lower
one, creating the short. I straightened everything, tightened everything and
insulated some additional areas of the connectors, now my "open door"
telltale goes off and on as it should and the sporadic current through the
courtesies circuit is no more!

How ever this still doesnt explain why the courtesies fuse kept popping. The
engine compartemnt light doesnt work. I think the whole circuit for that has
an open. I cant measure any voltage or current through it anywhere. The
switch is broken so I completely removed it, opening the circuit just in
case it was responsible for the current drain.

Also I think my alternator belt is loose cause my car squeeks often and I
thought that I needed bearings packed or something, but I think that it is
actually the alternator belt. I replaced the belts and just couldnt get the
alternator very tight.

Also my windows work even with the car off. Is this normal? I am getting 13
mA through this fuse at all times, but it could be for something else that
is tied to that fuse.

Subject: Sad DeLorean in need of good Mechanic(L.I. NY)

hi
My cars been in the shop for over a year now, its actualy very sad. i
send it to a mechanic to fix somthing small and they wind up breaking
somthing major. right now its at an AAMCO where they have rebuilt the
tranny over a year ago, but once the summer came around it started
acting up so its back (this is the 6th time its back at AAMCO). they
finaly fixed the tranny (they say but i think its just because of
winter and it will act up again in the summer), but now they are
telling me the car wont start. they suspect the fuel injectors. im
getting really fed up with theese mechanics because they ruined my
car. I bought it for $15k 2 years ago and i've already pumped in over
another $12k in repairs that were the mechanics fault. it was a great
car when i got it but now i dont know what to do. everyone i know
tells me to sell it, but i LOVE deloreans ever since i was a kid.
even PJ Grady disappointed me (car came back with damage and a $7k
bill when i only wanted new pullys and maybe a water pump).
so now i have a car that wont start, a key broken in the door lock so
the locks dont work (thanks to PJ GRADY), a tranny that stays in
first gear when it gets hot, and a car that mechanics know nothing
about (its in syosset now where i used to live but im in montauk now
so its hard to find out whats going on). my cars spent more time in
the shop than anything. I got this car as a present from my father
when i turned 16 im now 18, and i think mechanics see im young and
they kill my car on purpose so i come back to them.
someone help, i dont want to destroy this car anymore, if anyone
knows of reputable mecahnics in the suffolk county area (besides PJ
GRADY) please let me know. my car needs help. im going to aamco today
to yell at them and find out the story.

Thanks

Happy Holidays

Most every procedure I read about on the list, that includes anything
electrical, starts with removal of the negative cable.  In conventional
cars that's fine, the idea is not to ground the positive terminal to the
surrounding metal...however, we're talking the DMC here, you'd be hard
pressed to find any metal around the battery compartment that you could
reach with a wrench.  Remove the the positive cable, it's closer and
it's much easier to deal with.

Subject: ! 2001 model of the PRV V6 !

Go to:

http://www.renault.com/gb/produits/clio_V6.htm

This car has the newest engine from the PRV family.

I had the opportunity to see this car at my local Volvo/Renault dealership. The engine is mounted in the rear, yet mid-mounted. The engine is quite different from the one in the DeLorean - now, the engine is quite "boxy". Very little work, if any, you can do on that engine. Its very compact. I guess they only allow you to change the oil ;-)

No, there is no "for a set of golfclubs" behind the seats, but the feeling when sitting inside it is very DeLorean like!

Without measuring Im 100% sure that this engine would fit the engine bay of the DeLorean, but I guess you would have to do quite a few mods. I'm pretty sure it would work though.

How about that - 230 HP and 24V!
The Clio car is fitted with a 6 speed gearbox, something that would be fun to have in the DeLorean :-)

The Clio car goes 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds. The Clio's tires are of course - yes, you guessed it - 235!

I guess you can get even more info on this engine by contacting Renault directly.

Best wishes

That might not work.  As of right now, (4:01 p.m. CST) the high bid
is $23,100.00 and the reserve hasn't been met yet.  The reserve price
might be $35,000 (or more) and then, you would obviously need more
than $30,000 dollars to buy #502.

as some of you know i've had a lot of problems with mechanics so im

a mechanic do it, or do you think me being an amature can do it? if i

This isn't really correct, the Island kit is a twin turbo setup.  There
was at one time a single turbo kit from BAE but this is not being
manufactured any more.

However the Island kit is not the same as the #502 setup, it isn't even
very close.  The Island kit is a low-pressure setup which makes some
not-too-dramatic modifications to the fuel system to increase the flow.
The #502 (Legend) setup is a higher pressure turbo with intercoolers and a
more thoroughly engineered fuel and ignition system (suitable for being
sold on new cars).

There is nothing wrong with the Island kit.  It will increase the HP of
the car by around 40%.  Compared to #502 or what could be done with modern
components, it is not the ultimate _expression_ of turbo technology :} But
it is a good aftermarket kit.

First off: Who are you??

Second: Why are you posting about Rob in every post you make? I've
dealt with him on MANY occasions and he wouldn't charge you for
something YOU did not ask for. He has so many cars in his shop for
repairs/restoration he does not have the time to perform work on a
car that a customer dosn't want. Also I don't think Robs place would
have broke a key in your lock and not have repaired it..he wouldn't
have given the car back to you and he sure wouldn't have charged you
for it if it was their fault. You sure your not making this up?? You
do know that Rob reads the posts on this list don't you? I have
NEVER heard anything like this. Charged you $7K for work and charged
you for a waterpump that "you might" have wanted? hmmmm...interesting

Third: WHY would you bring your D to AAMCO?? And why would pay for
something that a mechanic broke? I would have demanded my money back
after having to bring the car back to them after the third time!

You first say that "YOU" bought the car then you go on the say you
recieved it as gift. So you got it when you were 16 huh? Must've
sucked to just look at it sitting in your driveway for a year since
in NY you can only drive when your 17 with a learners permit and
with a licensed adult in the car.

If your going to make a bogus post get your facts straight.

Hello all,

There is a DMC-12 in the NAPA Auto Parts 2002 Calendar.  The nice
looking 1982 DeLorean picture is on the month of August.  There are
specifications of the car, and a little write-up of the car's history
(mainly JZD), which is fairly nice.  I'm not sure if NAPA is selling these
calendars or not, but I do know that my work received one.  Check out your
local NAPA Auto Parts store for availability.  See ya down the road...

The Island Turbo IS a twin.  In fact that is the only
kit they have ever sold.  I have had two - one on an
81 automatic and one on my current (83) 5 speed.

uhh walt...kinda forgot one tiny little detail about that.  Since those signs
are attached to the body of the car with magnets, they will NOT stick to the
stainless steel.

As it is often stated here, Deloreans are not cheep cars to maintain.

Looking at the car in depth before you buy it, and researching (i spent over
a year and a half researching and looking before I was ready to buy) is the
best thing you can do.  I spent $14k on my car, and got a GREAT deal (thanks
Doug!), but I still wound up putting $3-4K into it.  I could only imagine
what it would have cost me if I DIDN'T research first!  Now my car is in
AWESOME shape, and is very reliable.

I know most of that is not of any use to you now....

I too took my car to PJ Grady when I first got it, and wound up with a
bigger bill then I thought I would, but all the repairs that they did were
necessary, and would have to of been done sooner or later...if the car is
apart, make the repairs while it is exposed.
I found that once I reached my cut off $$$ amount, that PJ Grady was
understanding, and kept the repairs to a minimum, and ONLY fixed what I
approved, and was urgent/necessary.

I am shocked to hear that PJ Grady broke the key in the lock and did not
make good for it, but not knowing both sides of the story, I will not dive
into it (remain nuetral!).  All I can say, is that they were very good to
me, and I have nothing bad to say, and did not have any issues.

Now....as for the other mechanics......

If you feel that they damaged your car THAT badly, you should seek legal
advice against them to see if you can hold them liable!  I hope you kept all
your paperwork and can claim what was done incorrectly...if not, don't
bother.

As for recemondations:

I always call PJ Grady for parts, and info!  I took my car there for most of
the major work, and plan on taking it for a yearly checkup.  Living in NJ,
it is a little awkward to go there all the time and take time off work to do
it(and expensive in tolls!  ;))  I went to several local Auto store, and
asked who was the best import mechanic around.  Most gave me the same name.
I went there to meet the mechanic and talk to him in depth (before having
any work done).  I liked his manorism, his prices, and the way he handled my
car while checking it out (covered the car to not scracth it, and was carful
putting it on the lift)

I had him do some minor work to see how it went.  And i was pleased.  Then
came the BIG test, I had a Transmission problem.  At first glance, he told
me the whole tranny had to be replaced, but I asked him to consult the
problem with PJ Grady.  He did so, and it turned out the problem was a
rare/common one.  There was a relatively simple fix, and PJ Grady walked
them through it.  CAR WAS FIXED FOR $340!  WOW!  Was I ever happy!
And....the mechanic was able to swollow his pride and listen to the experts
instead of thinking they were the end-all be-all of mechanics.

I am bowled over by this guy, and plan on using him going forward.  He
stored my car inside at night, and took really good car of me, and my car.

Now that I wrote a book...

Basically, SHOP AROUND!  Dont be hasty to do things.  Take your time.  Also,
be careful who you say things about...I know you might be upset with PJ
Grady, but later on, their help and expertise could wind up saving you a few
thousand (It saved me!)
