About 3 years ago, I had a similar incident. The left side started
to make some "unfriendly noises", and when I investigated, I found
one bracket bolt missing, and the other bolt sheared off. The only
thing that was keeping that side together was that the TA bolt was
still intact, and the flat washers were "capturing" the bracket so
that it couldn't go through the hole in the frame rail. I heartily
second this strong recommendation. This incident caused me to really
look at the configuration of the rear suspension, which ultimately
inspired me to develop my new TA bolts. These are great cars, but we
must all be diligent.

Actually, DMC Houston does NOT own the original
DMC logo...heh, no one does! : )
It's been cancelled since 1985.
The one Houston owns/ holds rights to is only a STYLIZED
version of the original! If you look close, it has a slight white
border outlining the "DMC" lettering.
I checked into this a couple of months ago, and checked again
a few minutes ago.
Either way, I say LET it say dead! That way John DeLorean
has a chance to get his logo back if/ when another car comes out! : )

Is this with, or without one or both doors open?
I'd pull the delay (white relay-like thing, bottom row, 3rd position)
to see if this is causing you problems; the internal transistor could
have shortcircuited.
Also check ALL switches. So not only the switches for the doors, but
also the trunk and engine bay since they all run from this same
circuit.
Best would be to pull the delay and disconnect all switches, then
re-connecte them one after another; once you see the current go up
you know the culprit.

This would be normal: your clock (if equipped) runs off of this
circuit too and your radio saves its memories with power from
that circuit. I wouldn't worry about this.

I had a similar problem. My problem turned out to be "only" draining of the battery. My door switches looked fine, the plastic tabs were on, still the door switches didn't do their job. Replaced them, same thing happened.
But then - DMC Joe to the rescue!
I strongly recommend you buy his "Door Light Battery Saver"
You can then turn your door lights on/off with the push of a button. The whole thing is fused and comes with a little box. My plan is to use the new on/off switches from DMC Houston together with DMC Joes little invention.
Of everything I have replaced on my DeLorean, the 3 things that have made me very happy and have made the DeLorean a better sportscar are these:
1) 4 lowering springs and new shocks from DMC Houston,
2) FanZilla from PJ Grady and
3) DMC Joes Door Light Battery Saver.
For those of you who didn't know, DMC Houston offers a new on/off switch that is a replica of the dummy switches on the centre console. I plan to use one for the door lights, and the other one for a rear fog light for added safety. The process of making your rear lights to also function as fog lights can be found in the Tech Section at the DMCNEWS page. Replace your dummy switches today! :-)

Hello everyone,
I had hoped it would never happen to me, but unfortunately it has;
I've been in an accident with my DeLorean...
There was no personal injury, that's most important,
but my beloved DeLorean HAS sustained damage.
I was driving home from work in my D, which I had taken to show to some new
people at work, going about 75mph on the highway when the car in front of me
suddenly slammed the brakes for no apparent reason.
In an attempt to not hit him I slammed my brakes too and steered to the left
as he was going right, but as I did so my rear wheels locked up, causing my
car to spin 225 degrees.
I attribute it to me taking two drivers courses that I didn't hit any thing
or any one; I was able to "control" the car somewhat which resulted in the
car stopping in the median only 2 inches from the center guide rail, with
the nose pointing to where I came from.
The *%^&@!$^%T&* that slammed his brakes in front of me didn't even stop!
Unfortunately the RR suspension is heavily damaged due to the sudden
sideways forces applied when the wheel slid from the asphalt into the soft,
grassy median. The mountingpoints for the brake caliper broke off of the hub
carrier, taking a piece of support for the bearings with it.
I had to call the police to block the -now oncoming- traffic, so I could
point the car the right way round again because of the large turning circle
our cars have.
When I was on the side shoulder we went round the car to check for damage,
everything SEEMED OK, so the cops left for another call, and I got in to
drive home.
Well that was not such a good idea; as I tried to get up to speed the car
made weird noises and didn't feel right. This made me decide to stop at the
next park/rest-place, about half a miule from where I spun.
Safely at the side of the parking I checked underneath and saw my driveshaft
pointing down instead of out and I could SMELL some burned stuff.
To make a long story a bit shorter; I had the car flatbedded home and have
been making arrangements with my insurance and workshop to get everything
fixed. I'm glad I have good insurance; every thing is damaged, even the fan
cowl! This is kind of funny; the ONLY damage I have at the front is that the
support for one of the fans snapped a piece, probably when being pulled up
onto the flatbed...
As I said up above; most important s that I'm OK, my car can be fixed, but
it will be expensive; I'm still researching the parts cost, but so far I'm
up to about $2800,- in parts only (OUCH! Thank god for insurance!).

Data is difficult to obtain, I've been trying to get first hand
information on actual bolt failures, it appears to be very rare.
Bending is common, factory torquing, at least early on, was improper and
allowed the loosening which allowed the bending. From this point I get
into VIN numbers and the rain belt and the snow belt. Given the many
100,000 mile equivalency tests and the rigorous shakedown tests the cars
were put through it's reasonable that bolt corrections as to type and
tensioning took place along with the many other updates as assembly
continued. The two who came out with first hand failure experience,
Toby and Darryl, both have very low VIN numbers, not very far apart.
Mileage alone doesn't really tell you anything, a properly torqued bolt
on a late VIN may go forever and an improperly torqued bolt on an early
VIN, may fail with very low miles.
A poll based solely upon mileage, not factoring in other conditions, is
merely a curiosity.

I took a bit of everyones help.
Soakes the sensor in penitrating oil, and went out
Bought a new 22mm ring spanner as long as I could get. New gas bottle for my blow torch and some other bits.
Got straight under the car when I got home Blow torched the sensor til it was red hot slipped on the spanner and gave it a bash with the hammer, and it turned first time ;-)
I don't know if it was one or all processes that worked but its done now.
This is the first time since I got the car that it has had a working O2 sensor. At first the engine was a nightmare, wouldn't idle and was trying to stall under accelleration, after maybe 5mins it settled down and is fine now, and on top of that the petrol smell has gone from the exhust which is what I was hoping for.

That's where I would give them a LONG flash
and/or a long honk on the horns.

I've allways learned to give trucks on hard manouvers some
extra spaceand knowing some truckies I know it is an
international rule of the trade to give a truck a short flash
when it is safe to get into your lane. To thank you for doing
this the truckdriver usually gives a LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT
on the turn signals.
So when signaling something is Okay tot do
a SHORT flash is the thing to do for me.

I like the idea, but when driving in the dark you can't see
where you're going because of this.
That's the reason that the Low Beams stay on when you
PULL the stalk for a flash; this way when you release the
stalk the lows don't heve to come on again.
When you PUSH the stalk the lows go out and the highs
come on permanently, cutting the lows cuts down on power
usage AND limits heat build up in the light units.

In the UK/Ireland, flashing lights usually means "you first" or equivalent - ie an "okay
by me" signal.
If someone pulls out in front of me, I too give a long high-beam "glare". You can also
flash to say "thanks" but it winds me up when people do this in the dark because it
blinds the person you're thanking! What I do is switch off and switch on dipped beam,
though it's difficult to do in the DeLorean. Both my citroens' headlight switches are
rotary knobs on the tip of the indicator stalk, making a quick off/on very easy.
In France, and on the continent, flashing means "me first", and in Egypt, they don't use
headlights at all except by flashing to say "i'm heading towards you" from a distance,
otherwise only using sidelights. It's a very strange experience being in a car in egypt
at night!

Yet more other interesting Delorean Trademarks:
The (still pending) logo trademark of "DELOREAN" in the standard Delorean
"bumper" font was applied for by: "Ephesians 6:12 Incorporated" whose
address is in Bedminster, NJ. Interesting, considering where JZD lives.
Even more interesting is the actual Bible text from Ephesians 6:12:
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places."
Very telling, no?

Thanks to all who helped me so far. I have performed some more tests. I also
straightened up the wires and mounts for the door switches to be safe.
I measured the current through the Courtesies circuit with the right door
open, it gives 1.35A. The left door alone gives 1.20A. Both doors open
simultasneously gives 2.55A. With both doors closed it reads 0.00A!!!! So
the doors arent the problem.
The engine compartment light does not come on. The bulb doesnt look burnt
out. The switch one the other hand was falling out the bottom of its little
switch housing. So to be sure I completely removed the switch. Current still
zero. Then i used an extra fuse to hook the two wire connectors that go to
the switch together. Current is still zero even with the engine compartment
light shorted. So my engine compartment light has its own open problem
somewhere else, but at least it isnt shorted.
The switch to the front luggage compartemnt works fine turning the light on
and off as normal. The fuse I first thought (and is labeled) for the
radio/clock/cigar lighter, actually is my windows fuse. So my windows
circuit is the one pulling the 13.3mA. Does this mean my solenoids are going
bad?
But I did find something important.

I bet that DMC Houston will have a very hard time defending any
infringements on this copyright since it has technically been in the public
domain from 1985-2001. There was a similar problem with a copyright
concerning the Diver's Down Flag (the red flag with the diagonal white
stripe.) Someone had a copyright to this many many years ago but never
enforced it. Eventually it became part of the logo for just about every
dive shop in the world. When they went to enforce their copyright, they
couldn't. I bet a similar thing might happen with DMC Houston. People have
been producing the DMC logo in various forms now for several years. If
Houston tries to get a cease & decist order at this point, I bet it will be
a moot point. (and probably bad for their business anyway.)

I don't think it is a very special thing. My interior has black leather,
seats, dash etc, but the carpets are grey. I think Many cars are like this.
If not you could just buy grey carpets and use them instead.

Just two more comments about Houston's claim to the "DMC" trademark.
They have filed for and gained official registration for:
"WORDS, LETTERS, AND/OR NUMBERS IN STYLIZED FORM." Specifically, the "DMC"
logo as it looks on the front grill, with white outlines. (see
http://tess.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=doc&state=ekkdm3.4.1 as posted
previously).
Also, this mark is only registered in only two international classes:
12 - Goods and Services: Automobiles and structural parts.
35 - Automobile dealerships
So, as it stands, other people can still register other stylizations of
"DMC" as long as they are not in the same international classes, and/or do
not look exactly the same. (The "and/or" is up for legal interpretation of
your mark(s)). You also can't just file for a trademark like you can buy a
domain name - you have to prove that your mark was been used in real
interstate commerce.
So, just for argument-sake, I could (but I won't) start selling coffee mugs
and t-shirts with the same DMC logo, then apply for my own trademark in the
classes associated with those items. Houston could challenge the trademark
when it is published for opposition, and it would be up to the Trademark
office to decide if I was infringing on Houston's trademark. If you look
at the trademarks for "HARRY POTTER", they've registered under almost every
possible class - covering all their bases. Of course, since this is all
legal stuff and IANAL, use at your own risk, YMMV, yadda, yadda, yadda.
