Yes new. I'll check the archives.
I've only gone by these for pricing so far:

Code=CC&wSec=2&wPg=1107&Com=0028&Year=1983&Model=08002800001

http://hemmings.com//hemmings/searches/prices/priceresults.cfm
Because of the .cfm link it won't bring up the results witth a click but it
states you can find one in Good shape for $ 15,450.00.
 Good being:
GOOD: Very nice condition. In fact, most casual observers would describe the
vehicle as "excellent." "Good" cars show very little wear and are driven
sparingly. Many are used as weekend drivers. Many older restorations fall
into this category.

Tony,
My Delorean was not musty it did not have a rusty frame it ran strong and it
is only $17,900 at VW of Oneonta in NY. Their number is 1-800-351-8166 and
you'll want to ask for Steve Adam. If you have any questions about this car
You can ask me, just send me an email.
Good luck!

Walt,
Have you adjusted the rubber tipped posts on the corners near the
windshield?
There is a gasket that is glued to the hood and there is a gasket that is
glued to the fender.  Do you have both of them?

I have a problem with water getting under my hood from the windshield area.
It is particularly a problem from washing the car.  Water splashes from the
windshield and gets in the trunk.

Here is what I have done so far:
Found that gasket was glued in the wrong place.  Removed & replaced gasket.

Found adjustment on hood latch might be too high.  Disassembled and found
that adjustments are already maxed out on their lowest settings.

I tried closing the hood on a dollar bill and the hood does not come down
far enough to grip the dollar at all.  The dollar easily slides out.

Toward the front of the car and on the front sides, the hood grips a dollar
bill just fine.

Compared to the height of the front fenders, the hood is about 6mm too high
on the driver's side and about 3mm on the passenger side.

Am I correct in assuming that the height of the fenders are supposed to be
adjusted to match the door and hood and not the other way around?

What else can I do to make my hood fit tighter to keep water out?  I'm about
ready to file out the adjustment in the latch to make it go lower.  I found
two places for vertical adjustment in the latch mechanism, and both are
already at the end of their travel.

Although your problem could be caused by a vacuum leak I think it is
more likely caused by a breakdown in the ignition system (bad ignition
wires and worn spark plugs). Visually inspect all of the hoses, listen
for hissing at the mode switch (the switch that controls the a/c and
heat) and check that they are all connected correctly. Play particular
attention to the hoses in the front of the motor, it is easy to knock
one loose without knowing it when working in that area. If the problem
persists after checking the hoses do a complete tune-up replacing air,
fuel, and oil filters, ignition cap and rotor, ignition wires, spark
plugs. If there are enough miles on the car (30,000) replace the O2
sensor and adjust the valves. (It is also possible but unlikely that
the air sensor plate is not centered or the plunger in the fuel
mixture unit is sticking.) If this doesn't fix the problem then you
have to take out the fuel injectors and have them tested and cleaned.
Since you are a new owner unless you really know the history of the
car it is best to start off with new parts. You should also pressure
test the coling system to 15 psi for 15 min. Replace ALL of the hoses
if any feel too hard or too soft or if any have any bulges. Flush the
brake and clutch fluid replaceing with Castrol GTLMA DOT 4.

When I bought my car, it too had a nasty smell inside, easily
explained as the previous owner smoked in the car. Since then
I have THOUROUGHLY cleaned out the ashtray, cleaned the carpets
and I have replaced the headliners. It still has a certain smell
to it, but that's most the leather and my new doorseals. I don't
mind, because this smell is unique to MY DeLorean;
I sort of like it actually...

> Also, what's so great about the upside down (to be viewed
> from the outside) DeLorean signature on the glovebox? Is this

Think of it this way: how many car owners can say they have an
actual, original autograph by the "inventor" on it? Try that with
a Ford, a Peugeot or whatever.
And there's a reason the autograph is on the lid: it takes just
a couple of screws to take it out; dont like it? REMOVE IT!
And if you don't want to spend money on a new lid, swap with
someone who DOES like the autograph or sell it on eBay...

I also think comparing a 20 year old car to a 12 year old one isn't
really fair; the available techniques on rustprevention progress
really fast, so 8 years is a hell of a difference...

IMHO you're absolutely far too picky, even for the pricerange you're
considering. I bought my "Dagger" for roughly $13k and as it looks
now the $20k-rule will probably apply to my car too in a year or two.
But meanwhile I'm having great fun driving AND maintaining my car.

If you want a good, drivable and safe car right away, fork out the
extra cash and buy a refurbished one from DMC Houston.
Might cost you a little mor, but you're getting what you pay for...

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've had to write to the group. I'm having
a gas smell that comes into the cabin through the vents (I think).
When I first got the car last winter, I didn't notice this. But now
when the weather is hot, I tent to really smell it when I pull off
the highway and stop a light or something. I'm almost positive it is
coming in through the AC vents. I read message #15046, and think it
may be related to this, but I just want to make sure. My wife gets
an "instant headache" when this happens!

There are NO signs of leakage anywhere. I don't know what kind of
gas tank cap I have, but it is black and has a lock on it. It never
really felt like it was very snug fitting; I also never lock it. The
intake for the fan looks to be on the opposite side from the tank cap
though.... does this stink tranfer really happen?

Thanks,

Tyler

I know this has been asked (by me actually) for the Massachusetts
area, but I'm expanding my request to include a larger radius. I may
need some work on the suspension and drivetrain someday, and I really
want a repair shop that knows what they are doing. I got a few
suggestions to go to a local shop in Hopkinton, MA but when I called
they said "we've worked on one delorean. We can TRY to take a look at
it".... NO THANKS. I can TRY to fix it myself, that's not the point.
I want it done right. I know if all else fails I can go to PJ, but
that is a tad too far. Perhaps somewhere in Vermont, NH, or Conn?

Newbie, Yes you could have a vacuum problem. Most 20 year old cars do. But
also the air flow meter may need to be adjusted. Since the 02 sensor is a two
wire w/o a preheater, the Idle will be a little rought till it warms up. Then
02  sensor thru the Lambda/ECU will adjust the Frequency valve to adjust the
air/fuel mixture. After it warms up and you still have the seeking Idle, I
would adjust the air flow meter. You can see a lot of info on my web site
about it.

Check to make sure that your idle switch is being tripped and
operating proporly.  It is located behind the throttle spool right by
the throttle plates.  If it isn't working right, it will cause very
rough and choppy deceleration.  I experimented one day disconnecting
mine so the engine would turn faster when idleing, thus giving me
more power from the alternator.  EVERY time I coasted in gear, no
matter what speed and what gear I was in, it was rough.  Needless to
say I didn't leave the car like this for very long at all.

Directions to the SEDOC Cruise-In on Sept 15,16 2001

The Cruise-In is being held at the Olympic Rowing/Kayak Venue on the shore of Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA.  To get there:

Get on to I-985 north of Atlanta.  This branches off of I-85 at exit 113 and goes north past Gainesville.  Take exit 24, Jesse Jewell, and turn west.  Go about 0.4 miles to the intersection of Rte 129.  Go West about 1.5 miles to Clarks Bridge Rd.  Signs will point to the Rowing/Kayak Venue.  Go North about a mile and you will see the venue on the left.

Coming from the north down I-85 toward Atlanta, get off at exit 137 on state route 129 and go west to Gainesville.  When 129 crosses I-985, you can either get on to I-985 and go north one exit to exit 24 and follow the directions above, OR, you can stay on Rte 129, NOT BUSINESS RTE 129, and it will make a right angle turn at the first light and lead you, in a couple of miles, to Clarks Bridge Rd and the Rowing/Kayak Venue.

Scott,
Yep, I have the gasket that is glued to the hood.  It was glued on too close
to the outside edges, so I had to take it off and glue it back on where it
belongs.

I have the gaskets that are glued to the fenders also.  Both mine have
shrunk noticeably with age but they otherwise are doing their job.

None of the gaskets seem to be interferring with the hood closing.  The
rubber-tipped posts at the corners of the windshield seem to be fine.  The
hood doesn't close far enough for these posts to do any good.

I think I am going to have to file out the adjustment holes in the latch
mechanism to get more room for adjustment.

Thanks,

You really should lock the gas cap or replace it with
a non-locking cap.  The lock mechanism is what tightens
the cap to the filler neck.

Another place to look for leaks is to remove the access
panel underneath the spare tire.  This will expose the
top of the fuel tank where the fuel pump and the
sending unit are installed.  Examine the gaskets around
the fuel pump and the sender for checking or leaks.  You
can also examine the filler hoses and vent hose for leaks.

I'd like to know the answer to this question myself, as
practically no one in Mass will touch a DeLorean. Very frustrating
for me. I have heard that Park Ave Motors in Sommerville is the best
bet, although I have no experience with them myself. Also, for all
your Bosch K Jetronic needs, there is a shop at the corner of Broad
st and Main St. In Nashua, NH that is very good, I forget the owners
name though.

Try locking your gas cap.  It will then seal the tank like it is supposed
to.  Also, if the key in the cap is difficult to turn, you may need to take
the cap apart and replace the small o-ring inside.  If the o-ring is
missing, you will need to install one so you will not have fumes leaking
out.  You should be able to purchase a replacement cap.

gas tank cap I have, but it is black and has a lock on it. It never
really felt like it was very snug fitting; I also never lock it. The
intake for the fan looks to be on the opposite side from the tank cap
though.... does this stink tranfer really happen?

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

From my own experience, Whenever I spill a little drop of fuel around
the filler area (as we all have done) ,and drive off I can smell gas for a
fair amount of time from the vents. Gasoline is some bad smelling stuff
,especially if something is venting fumes into the open . Without a doubt
you should replace
that 7-11 store gas cap with a Delorean replacement . Your fuel system
builds pressure
while running and builds up even higher in hot weather. Ever get a good hiss
from a gas cap filling up on a hot day?  The right cap has a good tight seal
which will let the vapor/fumes trap in the charcoal canister.  For visually
stimulating thought, that cap is only 10 inches away from a big gaping hole
in a tank full of fuel connected by a rubber hose. Seal it up man!!
Good luck !
