To Joe and the List,
You may want to look up
www.geocities.com/dmcjoe/doorlock.html
It explains the operation of the door lock module.
Print this explanation and show it to anyone who says,
"What!? The doors lock themselves?!!"
I went to www.google.com and typed in door-lock-solenoids.
It seems that the DeLorean is not the only car that has had electric
door lock problems.
Hope this is the last post regarding, "Trapped in a DeLorean."

Hello List members,
I just read on a web site something which indicates that there may
have been some incidences of people being trapped in their DeLoreans
because the doors wouldn't open. At least that was one person's
opinion. The site goes on to say that the problem can be fixed.
I find the possibility of being trapped in my DeLorean kind of scary
because of the cabin's rather cramped quarters. Is this really a
potential problem, and if so, Is there a remedy? If so, what is it?
Many thanks in advance.

Mr.Zilla,
So, let me get this straight. If I unplug that Red wire to the door lock
control module I will be able to lock and unlock the doors but not
simultaneously?

shiraz,
Lubricating the cable probably won't help. More than likely the cable is
frayed somewhere along it's length. It would be wiser to simply replace
the inner cable. If you need some advise on how to easily accomplish this
task just give me a call.

Subject: [DML] Throttle cable sticking
Lately my accelerator pedal has been very stiff. I have traced this
to the cable. Most of the time I have to push the pedal down fairly
far before the cable will get unstuck and move the throttle. However
this is very bad because then it then surges extremely suddenly and
if I don't hold the clutch in it sends a powerful jolt of power to
the tranny. I can't believe that's good for the car so I am very
careful in how I push the pedal down and handle the clutch. Of
course this makes it really hard to drive (daily) and it's extra work
on the clutch.
So, my question is how do I lubricate the cable? I'm worried about
pulling the cable out of the sleeve because of the U turn it takes in
the footwell. I'm worried that I won't be able to feed it back in if
I have it out. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
shiraz

Stian,
The noise you are describing is typical of a noisy throwout bearing.
Although the sound is annoying it usually is not something to be overly
concerned about unless the sound becomes louder over time. To replace the
throwout bearing the transmission must be completely removed.
Considering the amount of labor involved in removing the transmission you
would be wise to replace the clutch plate, pressure plate, and rear
crankshaft seal while the transmission is out of the car. If the bearing
noise does not get any worse you could hold off on this major job until
it's time to replace the entire clutch.

Subject: [DML] Squeeling sound from clutch
dmcrearHi there,
Quite recently Ive noticed that the clutch is squeeling when the clutch
pedal is pressed. Not a high pitched sound, more like a low pitch sound
but still annoying. Almost like "something somewhere is rubbing something"
Last year the clutch fluid was changed with correct spec. I also
upgraded to the stainless braided clutch line. I have no troubles shifting
gears, yet the squeeling sound tells me something isnt quite right.
What parts do I need? And what causes the #"¤%! sound??
Best wishes :)

How do you know if you HAVE an original door lock controller then?
The only thing automatic about my doors is that if both doors are
locked, then turning the key unlocks both doors. But I cannot
lock both doors from one side. What does this mean that I have?
If I unplug something a door lock controller, will I be able to
lock and unlock my doors normally?
Finally curious,
Richard

There are three different versions of the door guides.
WA W30003 (stainless) Vin 500-1100
WA W30004 (stainless) Vin 1100-UP
There is a plastic version installed at the factory for late 82's and
83's. I don't have a part number for the plastic version.

I wanted to install door guides on my early car vin.00780 and bought a
set
off Ebay. When I tried to install them the door latch, screw points, and
door body all seemed different? Are the early/later doors different? Are
there door guides for the early doors?
Thanks, IAN

Subject: water drops
Hey list,
I just charged up my A/C and boy does it work great. Icy cold! Well I
noticed today when I was driving around that there was some water on my
floor mat on the passenger side of the car. I crawled under the dash and
found that the water was coming from the casing that houses the fan. Would
the water just be coming from the condenser? Has anyone else had this
problem? Thanks!
