I suppose I don't understand the problem. People post, someone organizes the
info and puts it on another web site. This is no different from the
archives.
Regardless, I suggest a slightly different (or maybe not) approach. I don't
know why this hasn't been done yet; the Fiero community has done it as long
as I can remember: People who have repaired items on their cars writeup
quick & dirty instructions and post them to the list. The good ones are
consumed, saved, put on web pages and distributed by the rest of us. I've
got detailed instructions on everything Fiero related from headlight
adjustment to engine replacement. These documents often have the author's
name on them, assuming he or she bothered to put it there.
So, why hasn't the DeLorean community done this?
I suggest anyone who has repaired/replaced something on their DeLorean take
5 minutes to detail the procedure and post it not only to the DML but also
to DMCTech. I'll take every single one of them and put them on my web site
for all to see. If others want to do the same, it makes the information that
much easier to find. And I promise when I finally get my own DeLorean, the
first thing I fix that someone hasn't already detailed, I'll detail myself.

For size reference: the white thing sticking into the picture

This bar looks more like the one in the engine bay near the resistors;
the one all the cables are tied to...
Also, if it were a torsion bar, wouldn't the ends look different?

There was also another Gold Painted DeLorean that sat sadly in the
parking lot of the 'Unclaimed Freight' store near Bethlehem, PA off of
I22/I78 from around 1985 till about 1989 then disappeared. It was owned by
the then owner of the store (I talked to him several times). I have a
picture of it somewhere in sad shape @ home. He had it 'painted' in real
gold flakes by someone locally as I recall, however, he left it outside to
the winter and summer ravages of weather, with windows open...need I say
more. The car then was broken into, stereo removed with a crow bar it
looked, and gold 'scrapped' off from various locations on the body...guess
someone was going to make a gold ring or chain. Additionally, before the
car got in this sad shape, it was bright and shiney going down the road. I
saw this several times. The guy told me he had taken it (drove it) to a
show or business somewhere for display, and covered the car on the return
trip on an open back trailer after he had recently had the gold
applied...need I say more regarding the 'flapping motion' of the cover and
damage to the 'paint' (gold). It was a several hundred mile trip from what
he told me as I recall. He was upset when he got home after spending all
that money on the gold and then lost ALL interest in the car from that point
on. I tried to buy it from him several times, however, he was not
interested as he 'lost so much money' on the gold process. He did not even
want to talk about the car and repeatedly told me he did not care what
happened to it (but would not sell it either). Just wondering what ever
happened to it? He also told me that the same shop that did the gold work
for him was working a another DeLorean to have the pannels all chrome plated
when they 'painted' his car. The shop was going out of business due to the
EPA restrictions according to him regarding the chroming process. He told
me it was "very bright from those panels that were done". Does anyone know
about this car and if it was ever completed (chromed car)? Sorry, I do not
recall the vin on the gold car...too long ago.

I just did this last weekend. I had to remove the brake caliper and
set it aside to move the brake line out of the way. I then turned
the wheel all the way to the right, and put an adjustable wrench ($20
cheaper than the 1 1/2" wrench) with a 4 foot pipe horizontally
(level with the ground) on it facing the rear of the car. I then
pushed down on that has hard as I could. After a few tries and 3-4
hours earlier of constant WD-40 applications, it poped free. It is
not reverse threaded.
Question though, if you are just going to lube it, you do not need to
remove it. There is a little screw on the opposide end of the cable,
which you can remove to inject some oil/grease or whatever. Only
remove the angle drive if you are replacing it like I was. Good luck.

The screws turn CCW to remove. Sometimes you can loosen stubborn screws by
placing the correct size screw driver in the screw head, then give the
screwdriver handle a solid tap on the end with a dead blow hammer. A dead
blow hammer is filled with lead shot so the hammer does not bounce. Be
careful, and do not beat the thing to death because of your frustration.
When your car is repaired and running again, you may be one of the more
knowledgeable owners on the net.

In many cases the sender switch on the left rear of the engine for the
oil light leaks, runs down the side of the motor and then runs around
the rail of the oil pan making it look like it is the oil pan gasket.
Check out the switch, remove and reseal with silicone and see if you
don't have to remove the oil pan. You may anyway to repair the threads
in the drain but maybe not.

Steel bolts threaded into aluminum can "freeze" into it so any attempt
to remove will result in either stripped threads or broken bolts.There
are many "tricks" mechanics use short of brute force. Here are a
couple:
Sometimes hitting the head with a hammer can shock the bolt loose.
Sometimes tightening and loosening in small increments will do it.
Sometimes fluids can do it but the trick is to get it to the threads
on a long bolt.
One of the best methods I have tried is to heat the head of the bolt
cherry red and let it cool. Do it several times, let it cool and then
try to remove.
In most cases if the bolt is that stubborn then the best you can hope
for is to strip the threads but at least you don't break the bolt. Be
prepared to rethread with a Heli-coil or similar and worst case drill
out the broken bolt.(It isn't easy, if you are not dead center you
will wind up off center and into the soft aluminum). Since it is the
fuel system we are talking about I don't think heat is an option. When
reinstalling use an anti-seize compound so this doesn't happen again.

If you see corrosion on the inside surfaces of the fuel system that
means water has gotten in. The ENTIRE system must be cleaned. If you
fail to do so the corrosion will come loose later and cause all kinds
of problems. The Bosch system is very reliable but like all fuel
injection systems it cannot tolerate DIRT. If you don't want to
replace everything get bottle brushes and clean EVERYTHING. Some
things that you can't get inside of will need to be replaced like the
pump, filter, and accumulater. I would be very concerned about the
condition of the fuel lines running front to rear.

Are you sure you have a oil pan gasket leak. If the gasket is the factory
installed part it should not leak. If the oil leak is concentrated at the
left rear corner of the pan you probably have a leaky oil sender switch. If
the dripping is at the rear center you may have a leaky front crankshaft lip
seal.

I may be overstepping my bounds as I have not had to do a tremendous amount
of searching of the archives recently, but one thing comes to mind. What
the heck is this going to be? I mean all the information is there in the
backissues for anyone to search right? And for the last 4 years that I have
been a member, only a small portion of posts come from people saying they
had searched the archives and were unable to find their answer. Those
questions come in and are answered very quickly, even sometimes by the
original author providing the link to the backissue. I am unclear as to
what the problem is and why there needed to be a regurgitation of duplicate
information placed anywhere in the first place?
This all seems to be a lot of work for nothing. I mean simple filing rules
apply. I don't have 2 files in my desk drawer for each company I deal with,
that would be absurd. We have data dating back to the origins of the DML,
in a searchable form, is that not good enough?
Someone stop me here if I have missed something big besides the problem with
searching so many archives...But eventually won't the new list end up the
same way over time? Or won't this confuse new members who are looking for
information?
I have had the opportunity to discuss this with others from the list, who
share the same concerns, so I am not alone here.
Remember, these are just the ramblings of a dumb kid who just woke up, and
retaliation can be directed to me privately.

Public Television (PBS), my DeLorean will be featured in a 30 minute special
called "Campus News". when my car was in the Toppers Show early this month,
mass comm students from Moorhead State University, MN called me up and asked
if i would let them do an interview and photoshoot with my car. of course i
said yes, and it turns out that they were making a 30 minute show all about
my car!
it airs on PBS at 10:30am central time on Sunday, April 29th. if you go to
PBS.org, look to see if it will be in your area. the show is called "Campus
News".

Do not remove the angle drive to lubricate!
Only remove the angle drive nut if you need to replace the part.
You can lubricate at two points, the entrance for the lower cable & a set
screw on the front of the angle drive.

There has been some discussion recently about the difficulty of searching
our now-huge DMCNEWS archive and tech section. The current search engine is
the default MS Front-page search utility, which is somewhat arcane to use
and not very well-featured. The alternative texix/lexis search is better but
takes a while to update. BUT - there is a very neat alternative that I have
recently discovered.
If you use the site www.google.com, you'd find that it has indexed the
DMCNEWS web site very well. If you click on "advanced search" on the main
google page, it brings up a screen where you can set some search
limitations. Tell it to search only the domain dmcnews.com. In the area
where you enter what you are looking for, you can tell it to look for exact
phrases or words. Even more notable, Google keeps a locally cached copy of
all the files searched, and if you click on the cached files link when you
get your results, the "words found" are brightly highlighted. Another
benefit is that as I rearrange and streamline the file structure of the
archive in the coming weeks, the material cached at Google will still work
even if the links to the main page breaks.
An added benefit of Google is that as people perform searches, it "learns"
what links get followed the most and raises their priority in future
searches. This would be very difficult to duplicate in a server-based search
engine. The more you-all use this, the better it will work!
I have no affiliation with Google, I just know a very cool product when I
see it.
Just for fun try searching on your own name or email ID in dmcnews. If you
want to see something that's almost scary, put your name and state in the
form "John Smith TX" (without the quotes) in the search blank on the MAIN
google page. Look at the very top of the search results. YEOW.
I'll add a link to this on the DMCNews backissues and tech sections shortly.

We don't... this is a good question. But from the looks of the parts, they
are VERY dusty and look like they've been sitting in a garage for years.
And if it was stolen, why would they tear it apart to such a degree, like
stripping all the components off the doors? I suppose it could have been
stolen a decade ago and now is just making its appearance one piece at a
time.

Yes, I did a few days ago while inquiring about a part, and he ignored the
question, but answered the question about the part.

I drive past unclamined freight every day! I never
thought there would of been a DeLorean there. That is

Yes that is a torsion bar. When removed from the mounts and the door
hinges this is what it looks like. HOWEVER, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND
AGAINST buying/bidding on this part. It is laying on gravel, since
the person selling all of these parts doesn't seem to know much about
the car, all bets are this person simply dropped this on the ground,
thus scratching or gouging it. It would be very unsafe to put this
back into the car and wind it up. Just somthing I thought I should
add.
