Hi everyone I just wanted to comment on this particular place, since I live
in the area. Since this was the only other place that could service
saabs,(Besides the saab dealership) my father had our saabs there many
times. So when one of the head gaskets blew, he had them replace it. They
did it, and it leaked about a week later. I'm not putting this place down,
but if they can't do something like that, what chance do they have with a
engine like the delorean's? Well, now that I think about it, since the
engine is volvo-ish, they would know a little.
But you make the call.
John
P.S. If your gonna give these guys a try, drop me a line, I would love to
see a delorean.

Hello David,
this is an interesting side to my problems. i do not know if you are right
or wrong. i checked the title history on this car and there were no problems
reported. the car is in great shape as far as appearance. the underbody
coating is still in good shape and while i haven't done any major
investigation with frame rust, i have yet to come across any. also, the car
performed perfectly for at LEAST a year. just recently it's began to give me
problems. do you have any ideas on what to look for on the car to verify the
possibility of flooding?

Does anyone here know what other vehicle(s) the power antenna mounted
in the rear crosses over to? I know that the model is a Harada RX 20
for black, and TX 20 for silver. The reason I ask is from what I seen
on other cars on the internet, there is usually some sort of repair
kit available. The motor inside still runs strong, but the mast
refuses to lower. If I push down on the antenna while the radio is
turned off, I can hear gears hit grind they are trying to catch.

Subject: Re: John DeLorean reference & old Video
A trial did take place in Michigan I believe. That trail was for the
bankruptcy of DMC. Durring this trial was when fraud alligations
first appeared. The biggest evidence was the "Gold Facets" memo
written by William Haddad. What isn't commonly noted though is that
while on the stand Haddad admitted he forged the memo. DMC sunk cash
into building more cars when they couldn't gain export financing in
an effort to stay afloat by means of self sufficiency rather then an
injection of capitol from outside the company (which they were due by
the British Govt). Offhand there are only 3 items I can think of that
were not wise investments at the time: The 5th Avenue Apartment, The
DMC-80, and the Art Collection in the Park Avenue office. While the
timing wasn't the best to buy Logan Manufacturing, it was good move
none the less.
Later on, DeLorean's accounting firm tried to say that John DeLorean
was responsible for the failure of DMC, and that he (JZD) should have
to pay the creditors. Aurther Anderson lost and was ordered to pay
damages because they let DMC fail. A.A. was more concerned with
losing thier cut of DMC's profits by stake holders pulling out/not
investing rather then the survival of DMC. The court stated that
A.A.'s primary interest should have been protecing it's investors
money by way of looking out for their interests. They had enough
power that they could have stepped in and if not have saved the
company, they could have kept losses at a minimum when it did fail.
Even if DMC had managed it's capitol better (not just JZD, but the
company and it's associates as a whole), they would have made cars a
little longer, but they could not have survived. It was an expanding
company with a good product that was in demand by consumers. But as
soon as they turned that first profit the first year in bussiness,
little things kept popping up to hinder the company any way possible.
Belfast was the best choice for DMC to build finacialy and
industrialy, but it was going to be shut down anywhere it went...

Dear List,
I've been breaking my head on the schematics of the thermo time switch. I've
been reading the workshop manuals..
My question is this: is the connector (from the wiring harnass to the actual
tt-switch) symmetric or does it matter which way it is connected?
I'm in doubt whether it is connected correctly.

Water damage can range from just driving through a deep puddle to the
car being parked in a low area and completly submerged for days. Some
things to look for:
1) Pull up the carpeting and look for mold or mildew sometimes your
nose will find it even if you can't see it.
2) Lift the car and look for areas where dust should normally collect
and for signs of stains or watermarks.
3) Look for debris in unusual places like leaves, bits of foam and
paper.
4) look at the general pattern of rust.
It really takes a little experience looking under cars to see what you
are looking for and to interpet the signs. If the car was flooded it
is very likely never reported unless there was an insurance claim. If
the water was clean and it wasn't in too long problems don't occur
immediatly anyway. I have also seen on many cars that after sitting in
storage for extended periods when you take them out after a short time
all kinds of things start to go wrong. I took a shot in the dark but I
think not knowing the history of the car it must be considered so you
can know what to expect.

Looked for a solution to this about two years ago and contacted Harada about
it. There is a mast kit available and you can get it in black or silver. The
cost then was $24.00 price included shipping.
The mast part number for the silver is RXM5.

Marc
I agree with your comments that the Legend set-up was more than the simple addition
of a couple of turbos. However, I disagree with your comments about 6 lbs of boost
being all the engine can take.
I know of one D that has run 10.5 lbs for several years. I personally ran 7.5 lbs.
for years. Remember, the vendor wants to be sure he/she is not in any way liable
for engine destruction if one puts too much boost into the engine without proper
strengthening modifications. Suggesting 6lbs.is a safe number for moderately
increased performance without affecting engine life.
This is a strong engine. It should be able to take up to 1 bar of boost without
MAJOR modifications. There are forged pistons available. There are "total seal"
rings available (even forged for high performance applications). With those two
internal modifications and with less restrictive exhaust and intake systems, the
engine can produce enough hp to be quite a machine. However, then we must look to
the transmission, clutch and other things.
Also, I keep hearing about 170 hp by "simply reworking the exhaust", but I still
have my doubts. I believer that there was also some tweaking of the fuel delivery
system when that hp was acheived.
Having owned two D's with twin turbos, I've aften been tempted to play further with
the set-up, but $$$ alwasysseem to creep into the discussion. I'm not an expert,
but I have looked at various possibilites and I am convinced that one can exceed
200hp RELATIVELY easily (though not inexpensively) and that the guts of the engine
can take it.

Hello John,
I called the place and talked to the owner's wife. i guess the guy who i
want to get ahold of is a DeLorean owner and he does his own work on it, so
he probably knows a thing or too about the engine! i emailed him but have
not gotten a response yet.

Subject: will probably need to clean entire fuel system!
Hello All,
with all of my recent problems, i've come to a conclusion:
first of all, i'm going to have to come to grips that i will have to be my
own DeLorean mechanic. i live in Fargo, ND, thousands of miles from any good
DeLorean service center. every place around here either laughs when i ask
them about the car or tell me they wouldn't be interested in looking at it.
i just spent $275 labor to get my car to run, even though it's still
incredibly messed up with a fuel pressure well over 100 psi. no one around
here knows enough about the car to accurately fix it. and so, i will have to
do it all myself.
first thing is first: i think we have all run out of ideas on what to look
for. there are so many possibilities on why my car is acting like this, that
it's impossible to diagnose over the telephone, etc. even DMCJoe is getting
to the end on this one! and i don't blame him. and so, i think when college
gets out in may i will have to get my car up on jackstands and dissemble,
clean, test, and reassemble my entire fuel system, piece by piece, component
by component. i think this is the only thorough way of attacking this
problem and maybe, just maybe, when i'm done the car will run right again.
it is probably just a clogged return hose or something got kinked, or
something is leaking. who knows. but doing this cannot hurt it - at least i
will know my car a lot better when i'm done!
and after the fuel system - it will be the electrical system. every
connection, ground, wire, component from front fasica to rear turn signal
board must be cleaned and checked. i think that after this is done, i will
have a lot less problems with intermittent connections, lights not coming on
when they should, etc. again - even if it doesn't work i still win - i know
more about the car than before!
my question is this: who out there has done what i propose? dissembly and
cleaning of the fuel system? does anyone have any horror stories, tips,
tricks, etc?
thanks, and any opinions on this are greatly welcomed!

Hey all,
a couple days ago while trying to get my high beam lights to turn on, i was
flipping the turn signal stick back and forth and pressing the headlight
switch. i don't remember exactly what i did, but all of a sudden i heard
this crazy computer-like sound coming from somewhere and now the brights
refuse to work. i think they were working when i tried the flasher mode of
the stick, but when i tried to get them to stay on by pushing forward, they
wouldn't work.
the sound was sort of like an oscillation - i can't remember if it went up or
down in pitch. it lasted probably half a second but it was not good sounding
- like something just totally fried. i wish i could describe it better but i
don't even really remember it now.
anyone have any ideas? in a way i wish i could make it happen again because
it sounded pretty cool! how do i know if my high beam module is fried?
thanks,

Subject: what would a bad fuel accumulator do?
Hello guys,
as a summary, my symptoms are:
1. hard starting when cold
2. somewhat hard starting when warm, but MUCH easier
3. engine dies sometimes even after being warm
4. RPM's flow from 1000 to 500 when idling. as it approaches 500 every time,
the engine nearly quits but it surges back up like it should.
5. extremely high fuel pressure - over 100 psi, probably closer to 130 or
greater.
6. recently had a fuel line leak near the accumulator. i do not know if it
was a hose that connects to it or where exactly it was. i had the car towed
and 'they fixed it'. i had problems starting the day the leak happened. it
could have happened before or after i had trouble.
do these symptoms or problems have a good relation to what happens when you
have a failed fuel accumulator? i am still trying to figure all of this out.
thanks as always,
Andy

needed water injection to avoid fuel problems. I can get away with the
middle blend for aggressive driving and regular for normal driving with the
water injection. Without water injection I am committed to premium and
infact still run premium on really hot days if I am going to push it hard.
I run about 11 lbs. on my single turbo and in fact even eliminated the waste
gate. The system seems to be plumbing restricted to that pressure. It
seems to me that the intake manifold temperature has a significant effect on
the intake charge as the engine runs much stronger when it is still cool.
As a sanity check I installed thermocouples on the intake manifold and also
in the internal air stream. The water injection provided cooling effects
that better approximated cool run conditions in the intake charge. I inject
the water right onto the compressor impeller so as to get maximum
atomization and therefore charge densification and turn it on based on
throttle position. I tried a pressure switch but found that I did not get
water flowing until it was almost too late to do any good. The throttle
position gave it a head start to provide cooling before boost built up. I'm
sure there are significant benefits in water injection as well in reducing
peak combustion temperatures as the water droplets convert to steam. Do
you or anyone else have any experience with this set up?

Subject: Re: Thermo Time Switch
YES! It does mater which way the wires are plugged into the thermo
time switch. When looking at the schematic of the tt switch and the
cold start valve, you'll see that both are connected together with 2
wires, and that the tt switch also has a ground connection. Plus the
cold start circuit is tied into the starter, so this circuit will
only be active durring engine cranking.
The way the circuit works is like this: The hot wire first connects
to the cold start valve, and then connects over to the tt switch.
When the coolant is below a certain temp, there is an armature inside
the switch witch grounds itself. This ground connection completes the
circuit for the coldstart vavle to fire. The internal heater inside
the switch simply grounds itself thru the switch casing. This way if
your car doesn't crank within a certain amount of time, the arm heats
up and opens the circuit to stop the cold start valve.
If you had a cold start relay installed, the relay connections would
have to be modified. The cold start valve would then be grounded thru
the same connection the relay is grounded thru to complete the
circuit.
The reason the circuit is set like this is because it is unsafe to
ground electricity to a fuel line.
So, if you were to swap the 2 wires that go into the tt switch, the
cold start valve would fire every time your cranked the engine. If
the valve fires when the engine is warm, it can flood. If there is a
related issue with the engine keeping it from starting, it can pose a
possible fire hazard.

Subject: Garden Grove, CA Delorean For Sale???
I saw a Delorean for sale in Garden Grove listed on the Classic Car
Classified web site. Is the owner here?
I don't think it listed if it was a auto or a 5-sp. Wondering if it's
over at Don's shop as well.
Anyone?
Thanks,
Jeremy

To All:
DeLorean Services (DMC Joe) sells a modification that does this; very simple installation, just plug two spade connectors into the fuse box and you're done.
